DESCRIPTION
The 35 Tractor uses a.screw and recircu-
lating ball-nut type steering gear with two pin-
ion shafts which control the steering linkage.
The nut is supported on the groove steering
shaft by recirculating ball bearings which moves
the nut vertically when the shaft is turned.
Teeth are cut in the upper side of the nut and is
engaged in the left pinion shaft gear, which in
turn is engaged with the right pinion shaft gear.
See Fig. 1.
REMOVING MANUAL
STEERING HOUSING
The steering gear housing and instrument
panel can be removed as an assembly by the

b. Low pump pressure. Check pump relief valve set pressure 1100 pSi.
c. Faulty control valve, plungers and springs. Check plunger and springs. Install new, if
damaged or worn.
e. Oil by-passing piston in cylinder. If the steering gear housing fills up and the
pump reservoir lowers, oil may be passing by
piston in cylinder. Check and replace worn
parts.
f. Steering linkage binding. Remove steering drag links and check by mov-
ing steering mechanism by hand. Should turn
easily with front of tractor raised.

DESCRIPTION
'The power steering pump is constant running, gear type and is driven by the cam-
shaft gear train. The pump delivers a volume of oil to the system with a regulated
pressure of 1100 to 1200 psi, except on the MF 65 Diesel with the direct injection
engine, tractor Serial No. 685 996 and up, which has a regulated pressure of 1500
psi. A relief valve is located in the pump to maintain this pressure.

INTRODUCTION
This part of this manual is concerned with the overhaul procedures for the Perkins
AD3. 152 Diesel Engine. All of the procedures and service information contained in
this part assume that the engine has been removed from the tractor and pertain only
to the basic engine itself, without regard to any particular application in which the en-
gine may be used.
Thoroughly steam clean the engine before disassembling it or removing any com-
ponent parts of the fuel system. Also, make sure to cap or otherwise cover all fuel
openings as soon as they are exposed to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.
CLEANLINESS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND CANNOT BE OVER-EMPHASIZED.
Where the right and left-hand sides are mentioned in this Part, it refers to the en-
gine as viewed from the rear. Direction of engine rotation, however, is viewed from
the front.

INTRODUCTION
This Section covers the overhaul procedures for the Instant Reverse Transmission
and Torque Converter. Procedures for testing, adjusting and trouble-shooting, as
well as removal and re-installation of the transmission and torque converter, will be
found in each particular section of this Manual that covers equipment utilizing the
Instant Reverse Transmission.
DESCRIPTION DISASSEMBLY
The Instant Reverse Transmission consists 1. Place the torque converter, hub down, on
of a torque converter, a pair of hydraulically a clean work bench. Stabilize the converter by
actuated multiple disc clutches, and a two- placing the hub through a hole in the bench, or

The Drive Axle Assembly includes the center housing, axle housing, axle planetar-
ies, drive pinion assembly and ring gear, differential carrier assembly, and brakes.
Removing and installing this assembly from the tractor or unit is covered under the
appropriate Model heading because of the many variations in external connections and
mounting. This Assembly is attached to the transmission and may be further attach-
ed to side frames at the axle housing, depending on Model.
Locations given as front, rear, left and right are based on a ''normal'' tractor and
axle arrangement where the engine is located at the front of the unit, and the drive
axle assembly, the rear. Left and right are determined standing behind the drive
axle facing forward.
Other arrangements are noted under the appropriate Model elsewhere in this Man-
ual. For instance, the differential lock is located on the right side of the drive axle
assembly, and carrier bearing pre-load is determined on the right side of the center
housing regardless of their location when installed in a specific Model. The drive
pinion assembly is located at the front of the ring gear.
