Warm-Up Sheet for “Get Them!

a sample from Level 1
In the All About® Reading program, Warm-Up Sheets are used just before reading
each new story. Warm-Up Sheets contain words and phrases your student has not yet
encountered. Although all the words in the stories are completely decodable, these
warm-up exercises give your student a little extra practice so he doesn’t start reading
“cold.” Warm-Up Sheets also help broaden the student’s vocabulary by providing
definitions and illustrations to introduce new words.

Just as warming up our muscles before exercising is beneficial, warming up the brain
before jumping right into a story helps your student be more successful.

Instructions
1. Print the Warm-Up Sheet on page 2.
2. Point out the illustration of a pug. “A pug is a small dog with a flat nose and a very
wrinkled face. There is a pug in today’s story.”
3. Point out the illustration of a bun. “A bun is a small cake or bread. Have you ever
had a cinnamon bun or a dinner bun with butter? The pug in the next story is very
fond of buns!”
