SF -hyshe ol lets 7h 201014 62 clsledaets doze we dae Preface ‘Twelve years after publishing Pathfinder in Korean, the first domestically made Korean language textbook based on communicative practice, Ewha Language Center at Ewha Womans University has now released a new textbook titled Ewha Korean, Over the past ten years Pathfinder in Korean has been widely used as a Korean language textbook in many countries around the world and is still prized as a Useful guide for beginners to the Korean language, Under the belief that a new textbook was called for to meet the needs of changing times, however, Ewha Language Center began development of Ewha Korean in 2008. The project gained momentum when it was selected for funding under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology's program to provide support for Korean language training in 2009, Over the past year the textbook was tested, revised, and tested again through actual use in the classroom at Ewha Language Center before coming up with the final version. The Ewha Korean series consists of 30 volumes including textbooks and workbooks, covering six levels, and will be published in stages, Ewha Korean is a comprehensive textbook covering the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing with related content throughout all levels, While fostering balanced development of the four language skill, the new textbook is designed with an emphasis on speaking ability, The “Try it” section in each chapter is designed to encourage students to improve their conversation skills without memorization by creating their own dialogue according to a given situation and explanation of the flow of the dialogue and vocabulary, In addition, taking into consideration the demands and preferences expressed by students, levels 1 to 3 consist of two books each, and in levels 1 and 2 the instructions and explanations are given in English, Japanese, or Chinese(simplified and traditional) On behalf of Ewha Language Center, I extend my sincere thanks to the authors of the book for their passion and dedication, I also wish to express my appreciation to Professors Hai-young Lee, Young-kyu Kim, Hyung-yong Choi, and Sun-hee Park for their assistance in organizing the content, and Professor Hyun-ja Kim for her advice in regard to the literature sections of the book, Many thanks also go to Ewha ‘Womans University Press for editing and publication of the book It is my hope that Ewha Korean will be widely used inside and outside the country as a Korean language textbook, and contribute to the teaching and learning of Korean in a way that is both fun and effective, June 2010 Heisoon Yang, Director Ewha Womans University Language Center Aral Contents 4B THUD Preface BM PMH Table of Contents TIX} 22} AHS How to Use This Book #2 21 Main Characters Alszt Ala A102} AI 12} AN 2b AI132} A142} A152} 271 AV] shopping AZ] Plans SA] Food ail*- Transportation 1A) Weather A\3} Telephone oka °;=> Engagements 3] Hobbies ®)| XIZ &! Buses are also an important form of public transport and thanks to dedicated bus lanes travel on the bus is fast even in the morning and evening rush hours. After- wards the temperatures rise to above 301 in the day, and show little difference at night, leading to a period known as the “tropical nights.” To escape the heat people head for the seaside or mountain valleys. Koreans also try to beat the heat of summer by eating certain foods. On the dog days the favorite dish is samgyetang, which consists of a whole young chicken boiled in broth with ginseng. Koreans have long regarded samgyetang as a health food and believe that eating it on hottest days of the year helps to maintain health and vitality. 01 SIR ARISE 1B 017171 Hatt Sots SILI? | What do Koreans do to beat the heat?
