Vineet Jindal Advocate Supreme Court of India 409, 4th Floor, Pear! Best Heights - 2, Netaji Subhash Place, Pitampura, New Delhi - 110034 Email - officeyjlaw@gmailicom Mobile - 9868387454 Dated - 14.10.2023 To, Mr. Greg Barclay Chair, International Cricket Council COMPL. AGAINST MOHAMMAD RIZWAN, PAKISTAN CRICKET PLAYER FOR HIS ACT AGAINST THE SPIRIT OF CRICKET & VIOLATION OF ICC RULES, This is a complaint about Pakistan Cricket Player Mohammad Rizwan ,who was seen offering namaz on the cricket field during his team's opening match of the ongoing ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 on Friday (October 6) against the Netherlands in Hyderabad. The act of Mohammad Rizwan when he read namaz on the cricket field amid many Indians is symbolic of the intentional depiction of his religion which stands against the spirit of the sports. This very act of the player raises questions about the spirit of the match and raises a question of the ideology, the player follows while playing the match. The act of displaying his religion by Mohammed Rizwan purposefully depicts his intent to message that he is a Muslim, defeating the spirit of sports. Rizwan was seen offering prayers amid the field while his teammates were waiting for the drinks during the break. The act of representation of his religion by Mohammed Rizwan in the field and further followed by his statement in his press conference regarding the dedication of his victory to the people of Gaza further attests to his religious and political ideology. The Intemational Cricket Council, ICC, has reportedly refused to take action against Pakistan cricketer Muhammad Rizwan over his tweet dedicating the team’s win over Sri Lanka in the World Cup to the Gaza residents. The ICC claimed that it is outside the field of play and not within their domain, the ICC added it is up to the individual and the cricket board to act on the situation. It is to be noted here that this act of Rizwan, deliberately displaying his religion and dedicating his win to the Gaza resident, that too just after the match in his very sports uniform completely defies the spirit of the sports. While Gaza’s attack has been condemned all over the world, owing to its brutal, Inhumane, and heinous nature, India too as a country stands against it. The player publicly on the very soil of India dedicated his victory to the people of Gaza. Now, this conduct of Mohammed Rizwan does not restrict itself to the cricket field, but to the whole country where this player has declared his support to the Gaza residents and this stands against the ideology of our country. Earlier in 2021, Rizwan had offered namaz on the ground. When Babar Azam- led side defeated India by 10 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup ‘Super 12’ game, former Pakistan pace bowler Wagar Younis expressed his glee and voiced, “What I liked most is what Rizwan did. He stood in the middle of the ground and read the prayers in front of the Hindus,” after the 31-year-old Mohammad Rizwan had used the cricket match as an opportunity to flaunt his faith in front of millions of viewers belonging to various religion. Pakistani social media users have also lauded batsman Mohammad Rizwan for offering an on-field prayer during the match, International sports are conducted with the essence of developing an amiable relationship with countries worldwide irrespective of caste, creed, race, and religion and not to create or provoke enmity between communities. “Any act that stands against or defies the spirit of the sport must be condemned and reprimanded by the concerned authorities to ensure that it keeps the spirit of sports alive.” Therefore, it is requested to take strict action against Mohammed Rizwan, Wicket keeper and batsman of the Pakistan Cricket team.
