IN PALAWAN

1.2
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Eco-Entrepreneurship Challenge is a community-
driven initiative that seeks to support and cultivate
environmentally sustainable business ideas. It
provides aspiring entrepreneurs with the resources,
knowledge, and mentorship needed to develop and
launch green startups. This program aims to address
the pressing environmental issues in our community
by fostering innovative eco-businesses.

1.3
FORMULATION
Palawan boasts several of the world's most stunning tourist
destinations, featuring pristine beaches, awe-inspiring landscapes, and
lush, verdant scenery. However, it's disheartening to observe that there
are only miniscule of successful businesses capitalizing on the
2023
province's remarkable beauty and the increasing concern for
environmental issues in Palawan are concerning. I formulated this
initiative not only to address pressing environmental challenges but to
also empower local entrepreneurs, foster economic growth, and
promote sustainable, responsible business practices. I desire to elevate
the region's status as a hub for green innovation, attracting tourists and
investments, while safeguarding its pristine natural beauty. In doing so,
it sets a model for sustainable development that can be replicated
throughout the country, aligning with national goals of environmental
conservation and economic prosperity. There's a compelling need to
inspire and support promising entrepreneurs who can harness their
skills and creativity to prevent the precarious environmental problems
as well as showcase the unparalleled natural wealth of Palawan.

1.4.1
FORMULATION
Identifying the Problem
Palawan, a jewel of natural beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been
experiencing a significant influx of tourists, bringing both economic growth and
environmental challenges. The region's remarkable biodiversity, which includes
the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, faces increasing
pressures from the tourism industry, waste management issues, and the
potential degradation of fragile ecosystems.

1.4.1
Community Involvement
The idea for the Greenpreneurship was born from my desire to unite community
members, local environmental organizations, and government agencies to address
these challenges proactively. We will conduct extensive community engagement
initiatives, including city hall meetings, surveys, and focus group discussions,
which will highlight the community's enthusiasm for sustainable solutions and
green entrepreneurship.

period of 6 months. During this time, we will be engaged in an in-depth
research, consultation, and partnership-building efforts. The budget
allocated for the formulation phase is ₱2,500,000. This financial resource
covered the following aspects:
IMPLEMENTATION
The program will be implemented over 9 months. It
begins with a 2-month participant recruitment and
preparation phase, followed by a 6-month program
implementation phase that includes bootcamps,
mentorship, and resource allocation.

The Greenpreneurship culminates in a 3-month

challenge event where participants pitch their ideas
and compete for awards.

1.4.2
Evaluation, Maintenance, and Future Plans
The program's initial term is 9 months, but it's designed for ongoing sustainability.
After the challenge, winners and promising projects will receive support, and the
program continues to engage with the community. Future plans include expanding
the initiative to neighboring communities and forming partnerships for long-term
sustainability.

added layer of importance in this context. It seeks to address environmental challenges unique to the area
while simultaneously fostering economic growth.

The region is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Puerto Princesa Subterranean

fitting that a program encouraging green entrepreneurship is launched here.

The partnership with government agencies in the Philippines, like the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources (DENR), is crucial for navigating the regulatory landscape in the region. Similarly,
corporate partnerships with local businesses and organizations committed to sustainability, such as
resorts or eco-tour operators, provide a wealth of expertise and mentorship opportunities.
