How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

X Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation: This lesson plan will be implemented to introduce characters and
settings. Students will be asked to complete this as an in-class activity and the teacher will set the
Pear Deck to student-led. The class will watch the read-aloud together and each student has access
to watch it again later. After the first read-aloud as a class, students will discuss in partners or small
groups to complete the pear deck. Students may rewatch the read-aloud as many times as they need
to. The Quizizz at the end of the pear deck will be completed individually to conclude the lesson.

Managing student learning: Students will begin by watching the read-aloud as a class. Students may
work together at the tables to complete the pear deck and discuss what they think about the story.
After about 15-20mins for discussion/completion, students will be instructed to take the Quizizz
independently, then to put away their laptops.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): The pear deck activity is an engaging activity that allows for
multiple means of student action and expression throughout. The pear deck also represents a
different way of introducing content by providing a link to the read-aloud and options to go back and
forth.
Reflective Practice: I believe this tool can help students who struggle with reading because of the
mode it is presented in. Students can not only read the story, but they can also listen to the story to
help with reading comprehension. Students also have 2 choices to demonstrate their learning:
writing or drawing.
