SCIENCE AND TEACHNOLOGY WRITING CONTEST

Objectives:

1. To advocate understanding of science and technology in relation to current social issues


2. To encourage critical thinking and educated analysis of the science and technology world
3. To acknowledge the students’ excellence in written communication skills

Mechanics:

1. This contest is open to all bonafide students of USANT from Grade 7-10.
2. The theme for the contest is either a science, technology or environment issue related
to this year’s topic, “Releasing the Marvels of Science: Expanding Artificial Intelligence
through Symmetry of Robotics”. Fact sheets or other sources of information shall be given
to the contestants as bases of information on the same day.
3. The contest shall be good for ONE (1) hour only. There shall be NO time extension.
4. The essays should be written clearly and legibly in English.
5. Non-compliance with these guidelines shall result to disqualification.
6. Plagiarism is strictly not allowed. Anyone caught cheating in any form shall be reprimanded,
and shall be asked to leave the virtual contest immediately.
7. The authors of the TOP THREE (3) output shall be recognized and shall be given
certificates of recognition.
8. The decision of the board of judges shall be FINAL and IRREVOCABLE.
9. The Junior High School Science Core Committee reserves the right to modify the
guidelines, if deemed necessary, without prior notice.

Criteria for Judging:

Focus (Originality, Matter) 25%

Support (Theory, Context, Critique) 25%

Organization & Format (Paragraphs, Transitions) 20%

Language Use & Style (Word Choice, Creativity) 15%


Conventions (Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling) 15%
Total: 100%
