help her mother catch some shells especially during low tide.
That day, after her morning routine, she decided to drop by her
favorite spot near a big rock. She sits down for a couple of minutes
and talked to the big rock. Her mother had once told about the
mermaid appearing in the water. Anybody who talks to the big black
rock will see the beautiful mermaid and can make a wish. So, Ana
tries her luck.
When Ana was about to open her mouth, a beautiful mermaid
appeared, right behind the rock. Because she wanted to prove that it
was real, she rubbed her eyes again and again. To her dismay, when
she looked at it, the mermaid suddenly disappeared. Ana was
disappointed for missing her chance to talk to the mermaid. She went
home as fast as she could and told her mother about what happened.

Don’t Panic
By: Janice E. Villacorte

Mother and I were in the third floor of the building when a

strong earthquake happened. The light was out. I can’t barely see
the customers. I can only hear the loud screams and cries of
everybody. Mother held my hand and whispered, “Don’t Panic, stay
calm!” We performed the Drop, Cover and Hold. t safe. When the
light was back, many hurriedly went outside. Some fell when
shaking occurred because of the aftershocks. We remained calmed.
We used the stairs instead of the elevators. We were lucky, we
managed to go outside safely. There were some who were trapped
but stayed calm and got the attention of the rescuers by tapping on
hard and metal part of the elevator. Fortunately, no one was
seriously injured.
