OPHTALMOLOGY JOURNAL
Scenario :
A 35 years old man suffers from refractive error of 2 diopters of spherical
myopia and 1 diopters of astigmatism plans to undergo bilateral photorefractive
keratectomy (PRK). But he once read about complications of PRK which is a dry
eye syndrome due to corneal nerve damage after PRK surgery.
Therefore he consult his concern with his ophthalmologist. And it is
recommended for him to have a transcutaneus electrical stimulation to prevent
DED after PRK surgery.

1. Formulating Question
 Background question
a. What is dry eye syndrome?
b. What are the most common complications of photorefractive
keratectomy?
c. How to prevent DED after a photorefractive keratectomy?
 Foreground question
Does the application of transcutaneus electrical stimulation safe
and effective to prevent dry eye disease after PRK?

Scenario :
A 56-year-old woman, plans to ride a Hajj. She once read that long-haul flights are
at risk of causing deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Therefore, it is recommended to use
a special stocking that is characterized by pressing the muscles of the legs. (elastic
compression stocking).

1. Formulating Question
 Background question
a. What is Deep Vein Thrombosis?
b. What are the risk factors, signs and symptoms of Deep Vein Thrombosis?
c. How to prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis?

 Foreground question
In pessangers on long-haul flights, does wearing elastic compression
stockings, compared to not wearing elastic stockings, prevent DVT?
