Replace spring 0.6 Adjustment (Q) Adjustment of Valve Clearance (a) Pull off the air breather pipe from the rocker cover, and then loosen off rocker cover bolts. Adjust the valve clearance at top dead center of compression stroke of each cylinder (cold) as described below. Before checking for valve clearance, be sure to retighten the cylinder head bolts to the specified torque. (b) Align the timing marks on the gear case and the crankshaft pulley as shown, In this position, No. 1 cyinder is in top dead center of its com- pression stroke. Check both intake and exhaust valve clearances ofthe cylinder. If the valves have no specified clearance, adjust by means of the ad- justing screws, Remember to align the timing marks properly. If neglected, the eam lobe may force the valve into contact with the piston, Description Standard value (eld) Inake | 025 (0.0088") Valve clearance =™S_|__O%. Exhaust | 025 (0.0098") (©) Next, the piston of No. 3 cylinder comes to top dead center. Turn the crankshaft 240° clockwise from the above position, aligning the timing mark ‘of the crankshaft with that of the gear case. Then check and adjust the valve clearance. (@) To check No. 2 cylinder valve clearance, turn the crankshaft another 240° clockwise, then align the timing marks and check and adjust the valve clearance in a similar manner. (2) Adjustment of Injection Timing Incorrect fuel injection timing engine starting and poor et Adjust the inject a) Close the fuel cock. (b) Remove the No. 1 injection pipe. (©) Remove the No. | delivery valve holder {(@) Remove the No. | delivery valve from the holder fand install the holder alone to the original position. (©) Temporarily connect the injection pipe to the pump, leaving the other end of pipe open. (D Set the speed control lever to a slow speed position, (@) Open the fuel cock lever. On an engine with the fuel pump, place the starter key in the ON posi tion. (Do not turn the key to START position.) I result in hard performance. timing in the following 1 aos = 1152) (Checking Injection Timing (h) Holding the crankshaft pulley nut, fan, oF fan belt, turn the crankshaft gradually in the direc- tion of rotation, (0) Find an instant at which fuel stops to flow out ‘of the injection pipe. This instant isthe injection timing (IT). With the crankshaft stopped at the IT position, check to see if the timing mark on the pulley is in ine with the match mark on the gearcase (ky IF injection timing is not within specification (see paragraph 8.2 page 113), adjust the thickness of shims on the injection pump mount. () Injection timing varies approx. 1° every 0.1 mm increment of shim thickness. Four kinds of shims available are of different in thickness: 0.2, (0.0079") 0.3 (0.0118") 0.4 (0.0157") and 0.8 0.0315") CAUTION: On an engine with the high-pressure oil pump, the Pump would be damaged if the engine should be ‘operated without provision of a necessary method of {ubricating the pump.Remove the high-pressure pump and plug the piping before running the engine alone for testing. (2) Adjustment of High Speed (a) Engine without Damper Spring ® Adjust the engine to the specified fast idle speed. withthe high-speed set bolt and lock the set bolt ‘at that position. For fast ide speed specification, See paragraph 8.1.2 (I) on page 110, For adjust- ment on K3D-31NC, NCN engines, see paragraph 06 6. @® On engines with two-stage-acting governor springs, perform slow idle speed adjustment prior to fast idle speed adjustment. [For slow idle speed adjustment, see paragraph 0.6 (4), For slow idle speed specifications, see paragraph 8.1.1@) on page 109.) (b) Engine with Damper Spring In the case of an engine with damper, adjust the HIGH-SPEED setting by the following proce- dure. The same instructions mentioned above in paragraph (3) (a) ® applies to engines (with {wo-stage-acting governor spring) with damper spring. ® With the damper spring left fee (withthe adjust ing bolt loosened), set the engine speed to *! pm (Refer to 8.1.2 (2) (a) on page Il!) by means of the HIGH-SPEED set bolt, then lock the set bolt ‘Adjusting Damper Spring u ® Tighten the damper spring adjusting bolt to. adjust the engine speed to “A” + 20 + 10 (For agricultural: “A” + 40_%,) rpm [Refer to page III], then lock the adjusting bolt with a lock nut. (Apply Super Three-Bond #20 to the threads of the adjusting bolt.) ‘Check to see if engine speed is “B" rpm. ® Seal the above-mentioned adjusting bolt with a sealing cap. Seal the HIGH-SPEED set bolt by wire and sealing metal, (@ Adjustment of Low Speed (a) Standard type(with single-stage-acting governor spring) Adjust the low-speed set bolt to set the speed ‘control lever to specifid slow idle speed position. For slow idle speed specifications, see paragraph 8.1.1 (1) on page 109. (b) Engines with two-stage-acting governor spring First set slow idle speed to “A rpm [(see paragraph 8.1.1. (2)]- ‘Adjust the set to “A + 20_{5"” rpm (For in- dustrial use) or “A + 40_{, rpm. (For agricul- ‘tural use and for export use;~61, 62 specifica tions) with the damper spring adjusting bolt Make sure that the result correspinds to “B" rpm. Lock the damper spring adjusting bolt at that position using the same method as mentioned above in paragraph (3) (b) (2). (5) Stopping the Engine (a) On standard engines, pull the speed control lever to the cut off posii (b) On engines with “*key-switch solenoid” or “speed ‘control solenoid,” turn the starter switch to OFF. (©) On engines with emergency-stop-lever, pull the lever in case of emergency. (© Adjustment of Engines for Cooler Units Engines for cooler units are classified as of the ‘two-speed type, which uses two solenoid valves to ‘switch over the rated fast speed and rated slow ‘speed to each other, or as of the fixed rated speed type which uses only a single solenoid valve. ‘Before adjusting an engine, in either type, be sure to check the solenoid switch (es) and its support for proper installation and the switch related parts, such as springs for damage. ‘The following is the K3D-3INC engine adjustment procedure, Othre engines can be adjusted in the amps pring Adjusting bolt Engine stopping lever Adjusting Damper Spring Mode Tapaine | 23501% rom | 100027 rom KIDBINGN | 265078 19m “KaEsINC | 20307% rpm| KIESINCA
