Brief speaker/author background for introduction (max 150 words):

Chilean, Agronomist from the Universidad de Talca, Master and Doctor in Science mention
in Ecology and Evolutive Biology from Universidad de Chile. Researcher in the
Phytopathology Laboratory of the Universidad de Talca, from 1998 to 2008, working in
development of microbiological control agents, in 2008 to 2012 professor of plant health
cathedra in the Universidad Catolica del Maule.
In 2002, founded Bio Insumos Nativa, with Paulo Escobar and Gustavo Lobos, were take
charge of the Research and Development department, success in the development of seven
commercial products and a pipeline of 10 new products.

PRESENTATION OR POSTER INFORMATION

A. Presentation Title: The Philosopher's stone in the Development of Bio Control Products
(Botrytis Bio Control Strategy, A Study Case).

B. Presentation Abstract/Description (max 250 words):

After 20 years developing bio control agents for the control de Fruits gray rot (Bortytis
cinerea) in several crop, we show data indicating that the selection of the organism is critical,
but is not enough, the phylogenetic had a weak signal in the presence of traits related to bio
control (Aot <0.45), a second aspect is the definition of the specific moment and mechanism
needed, to had a significant effect on the control, in this case fruit rot at post harvest, we
show data of 12 years of field trials with control efficacy ranging from 100% to 75% of
reduction of reduction of gray rot in several crops as tomatoes, grapes, blueberry and
vegetables., meta-analysis of principal components, show a significant interaction between
action site (field) and moment of the interaction (P<0,01). A third aspect is the formulation
selected for different action site and environmental condition (P<0,05 and P<0,01). In
conclusions in the specific case of Botrytis control, the selection of traits is more important
that the taxonomy of the organism, but the use of a combined strategy with a strong know
lodgment of the eco pathosystem Is required to achieve high control level, there is not a
Philosopher stone in biocontrol development only hard field work.
