Part 1: Introduction - Why consider food insecurity in this course?


- It studies:
1. The relationship between food, eating, nutrition & the body
2. Social, cultural, political, economical, environmental factors that determine how people eat, what
they eat and why?
3. Contemporary issues in nutrition and food education, and key challenges to improving the nutrition
of communities.

Social Determinants of Health -

Health has a broad spectrum for different individuals and even different populations.
Example:
Other factors like: income, education and occupation have a higher life expectancy.
Even studies proving migrants have increased risks of disease than in their countries.

All the things that need to change/improve to decrease the levels of poverty:
- Job security
- More support and types of benefits for MSD/WINZ
