At a young age it is important for students to learn the

qualities of kindness, and how to treat peers. This is a
lifelong lesson that will be reinforced throughout their
school journey. PBIS is a multi-tiered system that enhances
positive behavior in the classroom. The lesson is designed
to implement PBIS by teaching what it means to be kind,
while incorporating it into another subject area. This subject
area is science, this enrichment lesson is taught through
art. Students will use their knowledge on rocks and minerals
in the lesson to choose their materials. Then they will
paint/write kind words or quotes on the rocks to spread
kindness through their community. They will get to choose
where the place their kindness rocks, giving the students
choice. The spot books are a tool for PBIS to explain
kindness in a way third graders will understand. These
students are already familiar with these books from their
general classroom, in this lesson they will be reminded of
these books, and have the choice to read through them
during the project.

Low achievers:
- Offer a handout with kind words/ phrases on them
for the student to choose from, so they can focus on
the discussion
- Give them paper to write down notes during the
discussion or a worksheet to follow along with as we
read the book
High achiever:
- Give these students the option to write a kind letter
to someone in their life they are grateful for, or a
letter thanking someone who has been kind to them.
- Another option would be for these students to create
and design multiple rocks and have some to take
home to spread into the larger community.

based on the PBIS principles. In this reflection I compare my research on different teaching
strategies compared to how they worked in a real classroom scenario, and explain how the
research was used.*
