Module Description
This module is a core subject that provides students with understanding of the concepts of
traumatology. Students will learn content that will allow them to participate in the
management of fractures, joint injuries, and soft tissues injuries. This knowledge will be
gained through lectures, core reading of books and practical skills lab sessions.
Module Competence
The module is designed to enable the learner participate in the management of various
physical trauma
Module Outcomes
By the end of this module, the learner should:
1. Perform conservative management of fractures
2. Assist in operative management of fractures
3. Manage joint and soft tissue injuries

Module Content
Fractures: Terminologies, Classification, Principles of fractures management, Complications
of fractures, fractures of the upper extremity, fractures of lower extremity, Rib fractures,
Vertebral fractures, Skull fractures
Joint injuries: Dislocations, Sprains, Subluxation, ligament and tendon injuries.
Traumatic soft tissue injuries: Blood vessel injury, Nerve injury, Compartment syndrome,
Haematoma, Ecchymosis, Contusions, Lacerations, Muscle tears.
