● Student teachers will recognize the uses of mind mapping technologies (i.e. Miro)
in a classroom and how it can contribute to student learning.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:

1. Students teachers will practice using the Miro interface by engaging with a group mind
map.

2. Students teachers will discuss the potential uses of Miro in their classrooms.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
● Laptop/computer
● Access to email

PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS


● Link sent to group members for collective mindmap access
● Individual Miro accounts set-up
● Miro mind map formatted for lesson

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
· Teacher screen will be shared on Zoom and be open to a Miro displaying 2 min
a mostly completed mind map.

· Pose the questions: “Have you ever been asked by a teacher to create a
mindmap before?”, “Were you given the opportunity to explore the many
uses of mind map technology in the classroom?”.

Body Time
Instructional 1) Student teachers will open Miro and join the group 3 min
Demonstration to mind map using the link:

2) Teachers will use a mind map previously created to
demonstrate the general commands and interactive
components of Miro.

Student Teacher 1) Student teachers practice using Miro by adding 3 min


Engagement personalized ideas to the group topic: “What is your
favorite food?”

- Subcategory 1: Type of Dessert


- Subcategory 2: Breakfast Food
- Subcategory 3: Fruit or Vegetable

2) Through participating, student teachers will


experience the interactive and creative nature of Miro
and mind maps more generally.

Conclusion Time

● “Would you consider using Miro as a visual organization tool in your


classroom?”
● “What drawbacks can you think of regarding using Miro as a
technology in class?”

Student teachers will be given the discussion prompts:

● “What were possible technical issues and how could they be avoided?”
● “How else could Miro be integrated into a classroom other than for
creating mind maps?”.

Assessment
● Through the observation of students contributing to the group Mind Map, the
teachers will determine the student's ability to engage with Miro.
● Collection of survey feedback and verbal feedback will enable the teachers to gauge
the students willingness to integrate Miro into their classrooms.
