USING A COMPOUND LIGHT MICROSCOPE

II. Objectives
1. Identify the parts of a compound light microscope and their
functions.
2. Calculate the magnification of a light compound microscope.
3. Prepare a wet mount slide.
4. Distinguish the orientation and movement of the specimen’s
image changes when viewed through a compound light
microscope.
5. Apply the proper use of the low and high objective lenses.
6. Apply the proper use of the coarse and fine adjustments for
focusing.

Microscope
Slides
Cover slips
Paper towel
Water
IV. Methodology
1. Get a microscope and carry always in an upright position using
two hands. One hand should hold the microscope’s arm and
other hand should support the base.
2. Plug the microscope. Turn it on and make sure that the light
comes on.

1. Why should you always begin to use a microscope with the low
power objective?
