factors (on the load and material side).
On the load side, safety factors F are introduced.

For dead load: F = 1.35 (acc. DIN 1045-1)

For wind load: F = 1.50 (acc. DIN 1045-1)
 3
- Design loads gravity Fgd = F × Fg = 1.35 × 6.0 kN = 8.1 kN

HGB channels
- Design loads wind loads Fwd = F × Fw = 1.5 × 12.0 kN = 18.00 kN

Design loads, bearing on the channel:

Dimensioning Fundamentals

1
Banister height

HTA / HZA channels

The minimum height hb of a banister is 0.90 m from the top edge of the
finished floor or accessible ledge to the upper edge of the banister/balust-
rade. In the case of drop heights of more than 12.0 m (except as specified

Rail height hb
in the applicable regional building code (LBO)), the banister must be 1.10
m high.

It would be desirable to have one uniform minimum height of 1.00m as

2
has already been mandated in the commercial sector and in some other

HALFEN bolts
European countries..

The thickness of the balcony slab must be at least h = 100 - 150 mm the front face of the balcony slab or gutter /
(depending on channel profile according to german HGB approval) when kick plate

require a thicker slab. All concrete-embedded mounts installed outdoors (e.g.
on balconies) must consist of stainless steel.  4

Clearances
The structural design of the banister must take all fundamental requirements

into account. As a general rule, all banisters must be built in a way that a
person cannot fall through them, for instance between rods, lattice bars or
solid infill.  5
They should also be designed so as not to entice but instead to discourage

3.2.2 Actions and required varifications
The action forces HEd, VEd, MEd and the action moment NEd have to be determined according to the calculation basics of app.
7. The ratio between horizontal action and bending moment is limited acc. to the calculation basics to:

HEd
≤ 1,5 [1/m] HEd [kN]; MEd [kNm]
MEd
2
It has to be proofed that the design action value Ed is less or equal to the design resistance value Rd:

HALFEN bolts
Ed ≤ Rd see table 3.1 and 3.2
Ed = Design action value (NEd, VEd, MEd)
Rd = Design resistance value (NRd, VRd, MRd)
3
In the simplest case (permanent loads and variable loads are working in the same direction) the following equation for the

design action value is valid:

Ed = G ⋅ Gk + Q ⋅ Qk
Gk; Qk = characteristic value of permanent load respectivly variable load acc. to local standards for load assumptions

concrete parts flush with the surface edge. It is advisable to
level the concrete surface and to apply a slight slope to the
outer edge of the concrete. This is to ensure that the trapezo-
idal sheet metal rests only on the HTU channel. According to
the german approval a heightened installation up to 5 mm is
possible. If, on the other hand, the manufacturer of the tra-
pezoidal sheet metal requires a total support width of more

installation and a flat concrete surface. A horizontal place-

pre-stressed concrete, is to be ensured. Maintaining a

The adjacent load deformation diagram may be used to determine
allowable loads based on acceptable displacement and the required [kN] Fres, ultimate = 150 kN

Perm. load with ν = 3 against average ultimate load from the tests:
