- The Goddess of Moon in Kapampangan Literature

- Daughter of Bathala, The Supreme Ruler
- Sister of Apolaki, The God of Sun

Story:
Bathala has two children: Apolaki and Mayari. Due to the brightness they emit, they are
adored by all living things. Bathala's abilities got weaker as he aged. With that being
said, someone had to take his place. According to Apolaki, the fact that he is a guy
should make him the future leader. Mayari disagreed and said that women are capable
of leadership. As a result, the two of them got into a fight. During the conflict, Apolaki
stabbed Mayari in the eye. He was guilty for what he had done. Because of this, he
proposed that they rule the world equally. Apolaki is the sun that we have today. which
of his two eyes produces the strongest light. Due to the fact that just one of Mayari's
eyes is functioning, she (the moon) shines less brightly than Apolaki.
