Dear Parents/Guardians:

As part of our continuing work in teaching the health and life skills curriculum to
all Bishop Pinkham students, the physical education department will instruct the
human sexuality component of the program from November 2-December 1,
2022. Instruction will continue for two weeks per group.
At the grade seven level, the following health outcomes will be covered:
W-7 PERSONAL HEALTH
W-7.3 Examine the human reproductive process, and recognize
misunderstandings associated with sexual development.

W-7 SAFETY AND RESPONSIBILITY


W-7.12 Identify the effects of social influences on sexuality and gender
roles and equity e.g., media, culture.
W-7.13 Examine the influences on personal decision making for
responsible sexual behaviour.
W-7.14 Examine abstinence and decisions to postpone sexual activity as
healthy choices.

Parents may request that their child not participate in this human sexuality
instructional component of the health and life skills program. Any students not
participating in these activities will work on an alternate health-related research
project.
If you have questions regarding this program or if you choose to exempt your
child from this instructional component, please submit the request in an email to
your child’s PE teacher prior to the beginning of instruction. Instruction will be
complete prior to Winter Break.
