Altair 2X Gas Detector
 Jenis Portable Gas Detector dikategorikan menjadi
dua macam menurut karakteristik dan tujuan
penggunaannya :
• Personal Gas Detector
• Internal Pump Gas Detector
 Personal Gas Detector - mempunyai spesifikasi
antara lain :
• Passive
• Single Gas / Max. 4 Gas Standard (LEL - O2 - H2S -
CO)
• Digunakan sebagai PPE (Alat Pelindung Diri)

 Gas Detector with Internal Pump - mempunyai
spesifikasi antara lain :
• Semi active (karena terdapat internal pump)
• 5 Gas Standard (LEL - O2 - H2S - CO) dan bisa lebih

Altair 2X Gas Detector

Umumnya dapat mendeteksi Gas


menggunakan teknologi sensor, sbb :
• CATALYTIC BED - Combustible gases (LEL)
• ELECTROCHEMICAL - Oxygen (O2), Carbon monoxide
(CO), Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) dan Toxic gas lain seperti :
NH3 / SO2 / HCN / PH3 / NO2 / CL2)
• INFRARED - untuk gas CO2, Methane (CH4),
Propane (C3H8) & Butane (C4H10)
• PHOTOIONIZED DETECTOR (PID) - for Solvent / VOC
esp. Benzene / Toluene / Xylene

Operation: Startup

 Press the button.


• Activation of audible, visual, vibrating alarms
• Software version, gas type, alarm settings
• Last calibration date (if enabled)
 Unit with standard XCell® Sensor
• Fresh air setup
• Initiate bump test 11

Operation: Startup

 If calibration due notification is enabled


& calibration is due, CAL DUE will scroll
continuously across display
• Press button
• Calibration is necessary
 If calibration is not due, “CAL”, number of
days & “DAYS” scrolls once across display. 12

 Unit displays gas reading in ppm or mg/m3


 If empty battery icon does not flash & self-test
is successful, unit is ready for normal use

Operation: Sleep Mode

 If activated, device goes to sleep mode if:


• It has been powered on for at least 8 hours.
• It has not detected any movement for at least 2
hours after 8-hour minimum operation time.
• It has not seen any alarm or readings other than
0 ppm during 2 hours of no movement.
 Device can be reactivated by either pressing 17

button or moving device so that noticeable


movement can be detected.

Operation: Battery

 Typical battery run time is 8 months.


 Battery condition icon displays continuously
in display’s upper right corner.
 As battery depletes, battery icon segments
become blank until only battery icon outline
remains.
 Each indicator segment represents 18

approximately 33% of total battery capacity.

Operation: Low Battery Warning

 Battery life indicator flashes.


 Alarm sounds every 30 seconds.
 Alarm LEDs flash every 30 seconds.
 Warning repeats every 60 seconds
& continues to operate until unit is
powered off or battery shutdown occurs.

Operation: Alarm Condition

 Unit has 4 alarm set points


• Low, High, STEL, TWA alarms
• Change set points using
MSA Link Software (download
at no cost at MSAsafety.com)
 Alarm condition activates

 Perform MSA’s patented stand-alone bump


test before each day’s use.
 Unit performs electronic sensor check,
followed by sensor flow path check.
 To initiate, press & hold button until PULSE?
appears, press button again.
 Electronic pulse check icon & 15-second 23

 Either PASS or ERR displays.

 If ERR occurs, perform calibration
 If PASS occurs, flow check icon appears
with 20s countdown
 Post-countdown, FLOW displays
& green LEDs flash.
 Exhale closely into instrument, breathing
forcefully onto sensor opening for 2 seconds. 24

 If ERR occurs, return to operating mode
& perform sensor inspection.

Bump Test: ALTAIR 2X/2XT Detector

 Perform bump test before each day’s use


 To initiate, press button for 1 second
• BUMP? displays, alarm test triggers
• Press button again while BUMP? displays
• Supply test gas to instrument
• Either PASS or ERR displays.

 PASS: green LED flashes every 15s


& check mark displays for 24 hours.

Bump Test: ALTAIR 2X/2XT Detector

 ERR: check for the following:


• Clogged sensor cover/dirty filter
• Correct test gas & regulator
• Empty/expired test gas cylinder
• Proper connection of tubing, regulator,
sensor & sensor cover
• Correct 0.25 l/min regulator flow rate 26

 Reattempt bump
 If bump fails again, recalibrate

Calibration

 Perform calibration in clean, fresh air.


 Press & hold button for 1 second.
 When CAL? displays, press button.
 While ZERO? displays, press button.
• Unit returns to normal operating mode
if zero calibration is not carried out.

 If zero calibration completes, PASS displays,


followed by SPAN?. Press button to enter
calibration mode.

Calibration

 Supply test gas to instrument


 If calibration is successful, PASS displays
 ALTAIR 2X/2XT Detector: returns to normal
operating mode
 ALTAIR 2XP Detector with XCell Pulse Technology
• When WAIT displays with calibration cylinder icon,
remove gas from unit 28

• 15-second pulse check countdown displays


◘ If PASS displays, returns to normal operating mode
◘ If ERR displays, calibration failed

Calibration

 If calibration fails, check for:


• Dirty sensor inlet or surface.
• Use of correct test gas.
• Empty/expired test gas cylinder.
• Proper sensor hose connection.
• Correct 0.25 l/min regulator flow rate.

 Repeat calibration until PASS displays


 Perform bump test to confirm passing results
 Remove from service if calibration continues to fail

Maintenance: battery replacement

 Remove 4 screws & front cover without


touching blue display connection
 Remove depleted battery,
replace with correct P/N
• Check for correct polarity
• Check for clean connectors
• Replace screws carefully 30

Maintenance: sensor replacement

 Be Properly Grounded!
 Power off unit, remove screws, lift out sensor
 Install new sensor into correct sockets
 Press firmly into position
 Reinstall front cover & screws
 Calibration is required after 31

Maintenance: General Advice

 Sensor & alarm openings should be kept clean


 Wipe unit with damp cloth
 Store in clean, dry area at moderate temperature
