Identifying Students for Tier II and Tier III Intervention
Tier I instruction refers to grade level instruction that all students receive. Tier II refers to targeted interventions and support that some students
receive who are not progressing in Tier I and whose state and district data indicate that they are below level on a minimum of 2 assessments for
reading and/or math. Tier III refers to intensive intervention and support students receive who are not progressing in Tier I or Tier II targeted
intervention. Being identified for Tier III intensive intervention requires formal process of convening a student support team, reviewing data for
qualification, and creating a plan of support and progress monitoring for a student.

Tier II intervention students are identified by two data points from state or district benchmarks that indicate they are below level in reading
and/or math. Tier II intervention students are typically identified by reviewing end-of-year state and district benchmark data/rubrics and
beginning-of-year district benchmark data. Tier II intervention students receive 30-50 minutes of targeted skills, small group intervention daily in
addition to Tier I instruction. Please see the list of state and district assessments used by Taliaferro County School District to make data-driven
decisions for student placement in Tier II intervention. Special Education students may be included in small group intervention with Tier II
students; however, they are not listed on Tier II or Tier III intervention rosters because they already have individualized education plans (IEPs)
that include how, when, where, and to what extent they receive support.

Students may move to Tier III/SST (intensive intervention) if they are not progressing in Tier I academic performance or Tier II intervention or
who possibly have behaviors that may be barriers to academic success. For academic purposes, Tier III students receive an additional 15-30
minutes of individualized, intensive intervention daily in addition to Tier I instruction and Tier II intervention.
