Captain Hook Operation - Manual
Operation Manual
Overview
The Capt. Hook system is designed to control and monitor linefishing. Capt. Hook is split into several
modules.
Hauling line – where you can control torqe and the speed of hauling, along with
monitoring numbers of hooks, fish counting, etc.
Bait Line – where you can monitor the status of baiting. For example speed, bait
percentage, etc.
Anchor – where you can monitor the depth and how much of the anchor has been
hauled
Brake – where you can monitor the tension on the search-line, how long the line is out,
and how far from the boat the search-unit is.
Double click the Capt. Hook icon on the desktop. At the top of the menu bar you can
choose between Work and Tools. In Work are all the tools which a captain uses during
fishing, but in Tools are all the settings of Capt. Hook, which normally are configured
during set up or when something needs to be changed. (See Service Manual)
When starting to haul you go into „Hauling Line“ and choose „New Hauling“. By selecting that all
current information is reset and you start with a new fresh window. By selecting „Current hauling“ you
can continue your previous work.
Click „Anchor“ to display a dialog that shows current depth, and how much of the anchor has
been hauled.
Maximum pressure is set (for example 350 kg)
Speed is set (for example 35 hooks)
Press „Start“ to start the hauling process.
When the anchor is up, you can close the Anchor window by clicking the „X“ in the upper right
corner, and the first Magazin starts counting.
You can monitor the speed of hauling(1) in the window „Hauling Line“, along with setting the speed by
dragging the green column below the speedometer, or use the joystick. You can view the tension(2) on
the line and set what maximum tension is allowed to be by dragging the green column by the meter
up or down, or by using the joystick. The tension on the line will never goes over the set maximum
and therefor avoids having the line break because of too much torque.
On the upperside of the screen you will see the number of the magazine(3) which is currently being
hauled, and by the side of the number you will see a visual representation of the magazine(4) and a
bar chart of the fish count. Beside of it is the fish counter(5) on the current magazine being hauled and
the amount of hooks(6) which has been hauled of that magazine. It is possible to change the readings
of magazine length between meters or hooks by pushing the button(7) behind the reading dialog.
The window “Total” (8) shows the total amount of fish, along with total amount of hooks and total
length of line in current haul. When a magazine is finished, a user should push the button Magaz (9) ,
either with the mouse or joystick. The magazine will then get put into the list (10) and a new magazine
number is displayed.
The list with hauled magazine(10) visualizer how long and how many fish were caught with each
magazine.
Color of fish(11) shows the ratio between hooks and fish on each magazine.
The button “Low Speed”(13) which can both be clicked with mouse or joystick, is for slowing down
hauling or reset hauling to original speed with one click. This button is often used to slow down
hauling if any problems occur, and to set back to original speed once problem has been solved.
The button “Brake” (14) is used to mark damaged magazine with a red blinking sign(15) . This button is
only accessible via mouse.
The button “Undo Magaz.” (16) is used after a accidental activation of the Magazine button
prematurely.
It is possible to merge magazine by selecting the appropriate magazine and push the button that
appears automatically in the merge window(17) . First you shall select the older magazine(18) with the
mouse, and afterwards choose the newer magazine(19) , in that case a merge window will appear
where you can select Combine Magaz. in the window Merge Magaz(17) .
All information from the new magazine will get transferred to the older magazine. It is possible to
merge any magazine and they do not need to be marked as damaged. It is possible to cancel a merge
by clicking the selected magazine again.
In the top left corner there is a „Run“ light(20) which blinks green or yellow, indicating communications
with PLC computer are normal.
If Hauler is stopped with the “Emergency stop“ button, a blinking Mergence Stop dialog(21) will appear
in the lower left part of the hauling window.
Break
If break is needed, the break button is selected(1) which displays the break window(2) , which can be
closed with the „X“ button in the upper right of the break window.
Depth information from sounder are shown in the window(5) and length information from search
drum(6) is displayed in the window. The distance to the bracked line is calculated from this information
and displayed (7) .
It is possible to set up a sound alarm by toggling „Tension Alarm“ (8) and set the green column (9) to
the desired weight. A alarm is then activated with the tension on the search-line will reach the set
weight.
When starting to set a new line „Bait Line“ is selected and „New Bait“ clicked. With that all current
information in the baiting window is reset and a new setting is started. To continue previous progress,
select „Current Bait“.
As soon as the window is opened the system is ready for linebaiting and the time is set on
baitingstart.
1. Estimated amount of racks is set in the window “Amount of racks in line” (1)
The speed of line baiting, efficiency of baiting, and a estimate of task length can be monitored in the
„Bait Line“ window.
