What is difference between ASTM A36 SS400 ASTM A36 SS400 steel are basically the same. ASTM A36 steel falls under the standard of the American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM A36/ A36M. The SS400 steel falls under the standard of Japanese Industrial Standard JIS G3101. Both ASTM A36 SS400 steel are structural hot rolled steel in the form of plates, sheets & strips for general structural applications. The ASTM standard A36 steel and the JIS standard SS$400 steel chemical composition are also much the same. Both ASTM A36 SS400 steel are designed for structural purposes. In common application cases, ASTM A36 $S400 mechanical property can achieve the same purpose. If you have special steel requirements, you need to look up at the chemical composition and mechanical property table to make sure whether ASTM A36 steel or JIS SS400 steel more suitable.
