DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT

UNIVERSITI TUN HUSSEIN ONN MALAYSIA

INTEGRATED DESIGN PROJECT (IDP): BFC43303

SEMESTER 1 SESSION 2023/2024

GENERAL PROJECT INSTRUCTION

1) Formation of group members NOT EXCEEDING 5 by assign lecturer.

2) Student should name their group with appropriate CIVIL & STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
CONSULTANT FIRM.
3) Each group should prepare the COMPANY PROFILE and COMPANY ORGANISATIONAL CHART
according to field of business.
4) Each group should find the COMPLETE ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING OF BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION PROJECT including the site plan and the building should not less than 3
storeys (The drawing in *.dwg or another softcopy format is preferable).

PART 1: STRUCTURAL PLANNING AND DESIGN (Week 1 – Week 7)

1) Based on architectural drawing, plan dan proposed the STRUCTURAL LAYOUT PLAN of each
building floor level. Determine ALL structural element size based on architectural, structural
and economical design requirement.
2) Analyse and design ALL structural elements using appropriate STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS &
DESIGN SOFTWARE available in the market. The actions and design parameters considered
should be in accordance with Eurocode standards.
3) Verify and compare the design result obtained from design software with MANUAL
CALCULATION limited to each ONE structural element of group member.
1) 1 nos simply supported beam
2) 1 nos continuous beam
3) 1 nos slab and staircase
4) 1 nos column (From top – stump)
5) 1 nos pad footing/pile cap (Determination of foundation type should be based on
SI report)
4) Provide DETAIL DRAWING of each structural elements and arrange the detailing accordingly
in the company title block.
5) Provide TAKING OFF AND BILL OF QUANTITIES for the structural elements considered in
manual calculation (materials, machinery, formwork and labour cost).
6) Identify the structural SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS specified by the local authority for the
specific project location.
7) Organise the final report accordingly and submit on week 8 via AUTHOR platform.

PART 2: INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING AND DESIGN (Week 8 – Week 14)

1) EARTHWORK - each student group needs to refer to the survey plan to identify the cut and
fill areas to get the total amount of cut and fill and provide Earthwork layout plan.
Earthwork layout plan – should include existing level, proposed level, orientation of the
building, location of silt trap, location of wash trough, total cut & fill, temporary earth drain
system, proposed slope, existing slope, proposed retaining wall, turfing, etc.
2) Propose and design for ROAD AND DRAINAGE of the project in accordance with Arahan
Teknik JKR and MASMA Standard.
Students need to identify the starting point of the drainage system, proposed the most
suitable alignments of the drainage system so that the water from the proposed
building/project/surrounding area can be discharged or connected to the proposed discharge
point. (Provide the proposed platform/road level/road alignment)
3) Propose and design SEWERAGE RETICULATION SYSTEM of the project based on population
equivalent (PE) estimation and IWK requirements.
4) Propose and design WATER RETICULATION SYSTEM of the project based on water demand
estimation and local authority requirement.
5) Identify the infrastructure SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS specified by the local authority for
the specific project location.
6) Provide COST ESTIMATION AND BILL OF QUANTITIES of ALL infrastructure works.
7) Organise the final report accordingly and submit on week 15 via AUTHOR platform.
