Task Plan 30082-1 SPM-C_ENG_ALL-FIRE-PREVENTION-INSPECTION_360-TECHNICAL
Task Instructions INSTRUCTIONS:
NOTE: The purpose of this PM is to inform Transocean personnel of the requirement to check for exposed high
temperature surfaces and for compliance with required protection for petroleum product spray from coming in to
contact with exposed high temperature surfaces as per IMO SOLAS 2009.
NOTE: Refer to RMS Bulletin # TO17380 (Checking Of Exposed High Temperature Surfaces And Compliance,
eDocs # HQS-TCS-B-ENG-096) before preforming this PM.
NOTE: High temperature surfaces are defined by SOLAS as being 220 C (428 F) or above.
NOTE: Reference: IMO SOLAS 2009, Part B: Prevention of fire and explosion, Regulation 4, section 2.2.6.
NOTE: The below Task may be performed by the rig crew, there is no requirement to engage third party to carry
out these required actions. Any high temperature surfaces identified MUST be adequately protected using
insulation and or shielding to reduce their temperature below 220 C (428 F) as per SOLAS regulations.
1. Identify any high temperature surfaces (exhaust system, turbos, etc) exceeding 220 C (428 F) with the use of
a Thermographic Camera (preferred method) or an Infrared Heat Gun while the engine is running with the
highest load practicably possible.
NOTE: SOLAS approved anti-splash, anti-spray tape or purpose built OEM supplied covers are acceptable
measures to comply with the regulation.
2. Make sure that all petroleum conveying plumbing connections such as flanges and fittings are acceptably
protected from spray under pressure coming in to contact with high temperature surfaces in the event of
leakage.
