THE DIGITALIZATION ERA: TRANSFORMING HOW WE ACCESS AND

CONSUME INFORMATION
By Tami

An increasing number of people are choosing to read news articles and books online,
primarily due to the availability of free content. This article explores the possibility that
traditional newspapers and printed books might experience declining readership in the future.

Reading articles online is becoming the preferred choice for individuals in this digital era. As
reported by CNN in 2022, the prevalence of digitalization has made it easier for 90% of
American society to access specific information via the internet. Furthermore, information is
now readily available on screens, such as mobile phones and personal computers, and is
consistently updated. Moreover, those seeking news or information can conveniently browse
content categories on dedicated websites. For instance, when conducting research on
curricula, educators often turn to online articles concerning new curricula implementations in
specific countries, like New Zealand, accessible through the New Zealand Ministry of
Education's website.

The advent of digitalization has prompted a shift towards online books, as printed books have
become less accessible. They can typically only be purchased in physical bookstores.
Additionally, due to the cost of production, many newspaper companies are increasingly
opting to deliver their content online. The production of newspapers and printed books
involves a substantial amount of paper from trees, which can disrupt environmental balance
through deforestation. Moreover, printed newspapers can pose challenges for some
individuals, particularly the elderly, due to their small text size.

In conclusion, the digitalization era is reshaping the way information is provided and
consumed. People are increasingly inclined to opt for online reading, given its up-to-date
content and customization based on their specific needs.
