between present perfect simple and past simple.

Present Perfect vs Past Simple

Past Simple vs Past Participle

The Past Simple is a verb tense, but the past participle is a verb form used in the perfect
tenses.

1. Regular verbs usually remain the same in the Past Simple and Past Participle form:
- I worked yesterday -> I have worked a lot.
- He talked to his boss last night -> He’s talked to his boss this week.

2. Irregular verbs are often going to change once they’re in the Past Participle form:
- I ate so much yesterday -> I’ve eaten a lot!
- Did you do your homework? -> Have you done your homework?
- I wrote an email in English -> I’ve written an email in English.

Unfinished actions that started in the past and Finished actions:


continue to the present:
● I worked with Marcelo. (I don’t anymore)
● I've worked with Marcelo years (and I still do).

An important/finished action in someone's life (They’re An important/finished action in someone's life (when
still alive) the person is dead):

● My boss has been to London many times. ● My grandmother went to London many times.

A finished action with a result in the present: A finished action with no result in the present:

● I've lost my keys! ● I lost my keys yesterday. It was terrible!

With an unfinished period: With a finished period:

● I've seen John this week. ● I saw John last week.


Complete the text by putting the verbs in the past simple or present perfect format:
