A2.01 - Present Perfect Simple or Past Simple
to class! Today we'll talk about meeting and review the difference
between present perfect simple and past simple.
The Past Simple is a verb tense, but the past participle is a verb form used in the perfect
tenses.
1. Regular verbs usually remain the same in the Past Simple and Past Participle form:
- I worked yesterday -> I have worked a lot.
- He talked to his boss last night -> He’s talked to his boss this week.
2. Irregular verbs are often going to change once they’re in the Past Participle form:
- I ate so much yesterday -> I’ve eaten a lot!
- Did you do your homework? -> Have you done your homework?
- I wrote an email in English -> I’ve written an email in English.
An important/finished action in someone's life (They’re An important/finished action in someone's life (when
still alive) the person is dead):
● My boss has been to London many times. ● My grandmother went to London many times.
A finished action with a result in the present: A finished action with no result in the present:
For example, in 2019, we ______________________ (have) to go to our offices to talk to our clients, bosses and
colleagues. It _________________ (be) very difficult to stay hours in traffic or for people who
______________________ (take) public transportation to get to work. But now, the debate is different.
People ______________________ (spend) 2 years working from home, and this ______________________ (have) a
gigantic impact on their feelings about working in person or hybridly. There are many reasons why people want
to continue working from home, but most companies ______________________ (announce) that they will return full
time to working from the office.
