background, areas of intervention, proposed solutions, and future plans for better health services in school.

III. Objectives

These school health plans and programs of Pigcarangan Integrated School aim to:

a. to ensure access to primary health care;

b. to provide systems for identification and solution of student’s health and educational problems;

c. to provide comprehensive and appropriate health education;

d. to provide a healthful and safe environment that facilitates learning;

e. to provide a system of evaluation of the effectiveness of the school health programs

Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Program

ABSTRACT:

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by germs that are spread from person to person through the air. TB usually affects the lungs, but it
can also affect other parts of the body, such as the brain, the kidneys, or the spine. A person with TB can die if they do not get treatment.

One-third of the world's population is infected with Mycobacterium (M.) tuberculosis. Tuberculosis continues to be the most common
infectious cause of death and still has a serious impact, medically, socially and financially. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), caused
by tubercle bacilli that are resistant to at least isoniazid and rifampin, is among the most worrisome elements of the pandemic of antibiotic
resistance because TB patients for whom treatment has failed have a high risk of death.

Once infected with TB bacteria, children are more likely than adults to get sick with TB disease and to get sick more quickly than adults.
In comparison to children, TB disease in adults is usually due to past TB infection that becomes active years later, when a person’s immune
system becomes weak for some reason (e.g., HIV infection, diabetes).

Rabies Prevention and Control Program

ABSTRACT:

Rabies is a neglected zoonotic disease which is almost invariably fatal in humans, livestock and other mammals. Classical rabies virus
continues to be endemic in most parts of Asia, causing more than 30,000 human deaths annually and contributing to almost 50% of the estimated
global rabies burden each year. More than 4 billion people in Asia are at potential risk of getting rabies where at least 94% of human rabies cases
were infected via a bite from an infected dog. Rabies vaccine is an active immunizing agent used to prevent infection caused by the rabies virus.
The vaccine works by causing your body to produce its own protection (antibodies) against the rabies virus.

In spite of the availability of effective tools for prevention and control, rabies continues to be a challenge in many parts of Asia.
Philippines has ranked rabies as one of its top five priority zoonotic diseases, and hence elimination of animal rabies, which ultimately will lead
to elimination of human rabies, has been set out as a pioneering initiative by the animal health sector.

The Congress of the Philippines enacted a law, the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007, which declared the policy of the State to control, prevent the
spread, and eventually eliminate human and animal rabies, and established the need for responsible pet ownership. This law reinforced the
National Rabies Prevention and Control Program that is implemented by a multi-sectoral committee chaired by the Department of Agriculture.

Tabacco Control Program

ABSTRACT:

Cigarette smoking remains one of the most significant preventable causes of disease and premature death in the western world and is a
leading cause of cancer and death from cancer.

Cigarette smoking during childhood and adolescence causes significant health problems among young people, including an increase in
the number and severity of respiratory illnesses, decreased physical fitness and potential effects on lung growth and function.

Over the past decades, mounting evidence has shown that cigarette smoking is associated with several malignant and non-malignant
urological diseases. In this regard, urologists can have a lasting impact on public health and patient quality of life by promoting a healthy
lifestyle and ending dependence on cigarette smoking and nicotine.

Schools are in a uniquely powerful position to play a major role in reducing the serious problem of smoking and other tobacco use by
school children. For schools to effectively prevent and reduce youth tobacco use among students, they must create an environment that
encourages anti-tobacco beliefs and behaviors.
