Rescue Work Continues in Gujarat

Gujarat, 10th October 2023a devastating earthquake shook Gujarat, leaving


devastating effects in its wake. The earthquake, which struck at 20:15 local time,
caused extensive damage to life and property, prompting immediate rescue and
relief operations

The earthquake affected many districts west of Surat mainly like Bharuch,
Narmada, Navsari, Tapi, Cambay Gulf where the epicenter was near Surat
diamond mines The 3.4 earthquake unleashed its fury, causing a innumerable
losses sadly ensued and infrastructure was severely destroyed

Rescue operations are well underway, with local authorities, the NDRF, and other
relief agencies working tirelessly to pull the survivors out of the rubble Several
relief camps have been set up in areas a the victims have provided shelter, medical
assistance and livelihood towards the disaster victims

An eyewitness described the horror of the quake, saying, "It felt like the ground
was shaking beneath our feet and buildings around us started collapsing. People
were screaming and they're running for cover. It's a nightmare I won't forget."

The main concern now is the risk of an epidemic due to the deterioration of
sanitary facilities and overcrowding in relief camps. Health officials are developing
measures to prevent the spread of diseases by monitoring the situation and
ensuring that victims have access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare.

The national and international response to this disaster was overwhelming. The
Indian government has declared a state of emergency in the affected areas and
