Chapter 1
Safety
1.1 Intended Use
BT-700N is a Patient Monitor. It measures SpO2, blood pressure, pulse rate and
temperature. BT-700N irradiates the light signal to patient’s installation part and converts
the light signal which is penetrated patient’s blood vessel to the electrical signal. Using
this BT-700N measures arterial blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate. To measure blood
pressure, set the cuff to patient’s brachial muscle and pressurize to the cuff and measure
blood pressure. Also using noncontact infrared thermometer, it measures patient’s
temperature in a short time. It displays SpO2, blood pressure, pulse rate and temperature
to graph and number. And each value is saved internal memory. Also according to the
installed measuring modules, it can change the display with five kinds of windows.

Note : This device is for use only by trained medical personnel located in a treatment
room which is located in hospital, an operating room, a recovery room and an
intensive care unit.
Note : Because the incorrect use of this device can do patient’s life harm, this device
must be installed, used and operated by trained medical personnel who can
measure and analyze physiological signals.

1.2 Instructions for the safe operation and use of the BT-700N

4.4 Connection and Measurement

1. SpO2
- Probe connection
Connect SpO2 probe to the “SpO2” connector in the left panel.

- Measurement of SpO2 and Pulse rate

Clean the measuring part(ex, finger and so on) with alcohol. Insert finger into a probe.
Avoid the use of other medical devices which can disturb the blood flow.
Avoid attaching the probe to the position which can bring up the interference of
measurement. For the stable measurement, please fix the probe cable properly using finger
and a sticking plaster with attention to prevent the disturbing of blood flow.
Check the status of skin and connection of probe at regular interval.

2. NIBP
- Cuff connection and disconnection
Push NIBP cuff in the “NIBP” connector in the left panel. NIBP cuff is connected with a
clack sound. Check the locking status of connector. To disconnect a cuff from “NIBP”
connector, slide a lock slide to the back and unlock the lock slide.

- Measurement of NIBP
Sit on the chair calmly and comfortably with back about 5 minutes and stabilize the body.
Measure NIBP in a sitting or lying position (Provided, the height of arm is same as heart.).
The object of measurement must not smoke and drink coffee before the measurement of
blood pressure. After taking off the object’s top or rolling up object’s shirt’s sleeve with no
arm fastening, measure blood pressure. The size of cuff’s horizontal axis must be large as
possible as can wrap 80% of arm. Measure blood pressure over two times at the intervals of
two minutes and average these measured values.

7.2 NIBP Measurement Modes

1. BT-700Nsupports 3 modes to measure blood pressure.

- Manual mode : Measure blood pressure once and stop to measuring.

- Auto mode : BT-700N measures blood pressure repeatedly at the interval of setting time.
Setting interval time is off, 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 and 90 minutes.

- STAT mode : During setting time, BT-700N measures blood pressure repeatedly as many as
possible. Setting interval time is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 minutes.

2. The follows are the starting method of each measuring mode.

- Manual mode : In the status of Auto Mode Interval is set to off in Menu/NIBP Setup item,
press NIBP Start/Stop key shortly once. (1 beep sounds.)

- Auto mode : In the status of Auto Mode Interval time is set in Menu/NIBP Setup item

( is displayed in Main window), press NIBP Start/Stop key shortly once. (1 beep

sounds and Icon is rotating.)

- STAT mode : Independent to Manual or Auto mode, press NIBP Start/Stop key about 2
seconds (2 beep sound.). Icon is displayed in Main window.

3. The follow is stopping method of each measuring mode.

- After starting Manual / Auto / STAT mode, press NIBP Start/Stop key once more and then
this function will stop.

7.3 Description of NIBP Display and Menu

1. Display

The values of Systolic, Diastolic and MAP are presented with the relevant unit (mmHg
or kPa). In the case of the value of NIBP PR, the value of PR that is measured from
NIBP signal is presented. If the value is not measured, “---” is displayed in the region
which is displayed measured value instead of measured value. In the alarm status, the
corresponding value is displayed with red. In addition the value of Initial inflate pressure,
NIBP mode icon and the measuring time of NIBP are displayed.

Figure 7-2. shows relevant values and items in NIBP region.

- Initial Inflate Pressure : The system pressurize to the setting pressure from the initial
pressure.(provided, if the significant wave(systolic part) is detected the system will stop the
pressurization and start to measure the pressure.)

- NIBP mode
a. Manual mode : There in no icon displayed.
b. Auto mode : icon is displayed.
c. STAT mode : icon is displayed.
(provided, in the case of the device is set to Auto mode, icon is displayed on
icon with overlapped.)

- NIBP timer : In Auto mode, the device counts up the total measuring time(This is similar
with stop watch.). In STAT mode, the device counts down the measuring time from the
start time(This is similar with a timer.).

2. Menu

The device enters to NIBP setup window by selecting Menu / NIBP setup item. The user can
set items relevant to NIBP in NIBP setup window.
Figure 7-3. shows NIBP setup window.

mode. If the time is set to voluntary value except “Off”, the device mode is changed to Auto
Mode from Manual Mode. Setting range is from “Off” to 90 minutes.

- STAT Mode Time : User can set the operating time of STAT mode from 1 to 10 minutes.

- Initial Inflate Pressure : User can set the initial pressurization value to measure NIBP.
During pressurization, if the wave of measured NIBP is detected before the initial
pressurization value, the device stops pressurization and starts to measure NIBP. If the device
determines that the pressurization to measure must be higher than the initial inflating pressure,
the device performs re-pressurization.

- NIBP Unit : User can select NIBP unit between “mmHg” and “kPa”.

- Systolic Limit : In the case of Systolic value(one of the measured NIBP values) is out of
definite range, user can set the range to make alarm.

- Mean Limit : In the case of Mean value(one of the measured NIBP values) is out of definite
range, user can set the range to make alarm.

- Diastolic Limit : In the case of Diastolic value(one of the measured NIBP values) is out of
definite range, user can set the range to make alarm.

- NIBP PR Limit : In the case of NIBP PR value(one of the measured NIBP values) is out of
definite range, user can set the range to make alarm.

Note : NIBP operating mode

- Manual mode : The device measures NIBP once and stops to measure NIBP. If user push
NIBP operating key shortly (1 Beep) when Auto Mode Interval item is off, the device will
operate with Manual mode.

- Auto mode : When the time is set in Auto mode Interval, the system measures blood
pressure repeatedly at the intervals of setting time. If total measurement time is longer than
setting time, 30 seconds after end of the prior measuring step the device measures blood
pressure again. Press NIBP operating key shortly (1 Beep) then the device starts to measuring.

- STAT mode : During the setting time, the device measures blood pressure repeatedly as
many as possible. The measuring interval is two seconds. The device will operate with STAT
mode by pressing NIBP operating key long(2 Beep) in Manual or Auto mode.
