4 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 4.1 | START-UP/PRE-OPERATION CHECKLIST a gaaqaaaaa aa o Check all fluid levels in the hydraulic system and gear reducers. Run the hydraulic system through several cycles to ensure proper operation. Check all motors for correct rotation Check all mounting bolts. Check V-belt alignment and tension. Check security of the blade assembly. Check security of the helical sweep blade assembly. Check condition of scraper blades on the helical sweep blade assembly. Check for proper operation of all safety features, locks and limit switches. The machine should not be operated unless all safety devices are installed and connected properly. Check for excessive noise and vibration, Check the dome for leaks. Check for proper grounding between the machine and tank to avoid static build-up and discharge. 4.2 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS This manual does not cover the specific end application involving dispersion of the product for which the machine was purchased. The following operating guidelines are general in nature and ensure that your Hockmeyer machine will provide years of safe and reliable service. A HAVE ALL OPERATORS READ THIS MANUAL BEFORE STARTING OPERATION OF THE MACHINE, ALL (OPERATING AND SAFETY QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED BEFORE START UP. A WEAR PROPER PPE, SUCH AS SAFETY GLASSES OR FACE SHIELD, WHILE WORKING WITH WASH FLUID WHICH CAN SPLASH, A DO NOT OPERATE THE MACHINE UNLESS THE DISPERSION BLADE IS SUBMERGED IN LIQUID OR PRODUCT. A DO NOT CLEAN ANY PART OF THE MACHINEWITH STEEL TOOLS OR DEVICES THAT CAN GENERATE SPARKS, 26 4.2.1 HYDRAULIC LIFT SYSTEM To operate the hydraulic lift system, the operator must first push the “hoist” button. This action energizes the hydraulic power unit motor for a preset amount of time. Once the motor is running, the cylinder may be raised or lowered with the lever. if the motor stops running before the completion of the hydraulic operation, the operator must push the button to energize the motor again, 4.2.2 CANLOCK The can lock is a safety device meant to keep portable mixing vessels securely in place while the mixer is operating. The mixer will not operate unless the switch has been properly contacted bya secured vessel. Before starting your mixer, a properly sized vessel should be locked in place with the can lock. > The can lock secures the vessel in place by using a strap and ratchet. Wrap the strap around the vessel, insert the strap in the ratchet, tighten and lock the ratchet. > The can lock is equipped with a can lock safety proximity switch which prevents the machine from ‘operating unless the switch has been properly contacted by a secured tank/vessel. 4.2.3 OPERATING THE SHAFT DRIVE SYSTEM > DONOT start or stop the machine at high speed. Starting and stopping at high speeds places undue stress on the belts, drive pulleys, speed control devices and motors. Always start the machine at slow speed, and before stopping, adjust the speed control device to its slowest speed. > After operations are complete, inspect the blade. Worn and damaged blades will increase dispersion times. v After operations are complete, ensure that the blade-retaining bolt is tight. v Inspect the machineat the first indication of any abnormal condition. Continued operation of the machinewith any abnormal condition could cause injury, and increase repair cost and down time. a 4.2.4 OPERATOR CONTROL STATION OVERVIEW The Operator Control Station contains meters to monitor, and push buttons, switches and potentiometers to operate the machine. Following is a list of the components that are included on the operator station and a brief description of each. 1999 Figure 4.2—1: The Operator Control Panel 1. Left Disperser Start Button — When this button is pushed, the Rotor Stator shaft will begin to rotate; the shaft speed will correspond with the speed set with the Rotor Stator Speed potentiometer. Left perser Stop Button — When this button is pushed, the Rotor Stator shaft will cease to rotate. Left Disperser Speed Selector - Allows the operator to control the rotational speed of the Rotor Stator shaft. Turn the potentiometer clockwise to increase speed, counterclockwise to decrease. ‘Sweeper Start Button ~ When this button is pushed, the helical sweep blade shaft will begin to rotate; the shaft speed will correspond with the speed set with the sweeper speed potentiometer switch and the direction will correspond with the direction selected on the sweeper direction switch ‘Sweeper Stop Button — When this button is pushed, the helical sweep blade shaft will cease to rotate. ‘Sweeper Speed Selector - Allows the operator to control the rotational speed of the helical sweep blade shaft. Turn the potentiometer clockwise to Increase speed, counterclockwise to decrease. ‘Sweeper Direction - Allows operator to switch between “Forward” and “Reverse” rotation. Right Disperser Start Button — When this button is pushed, the disperser shaft will begin to rotate; the shaft speed will correspond with the speed set with the disperser speed potentiometer switch. Right Disperser Stop Button — When this button is pushed, the disperser shaft will cease to rotate. Right Disperser Speed Selector - Allows the operator to control the rotational speed of the disperser shaft. Turn the potentiometer clockwise to increase speed, counter- clockwise to decrease. Hoist Button ~ When pushed, the hydraulic pump motor will energize allowing the dual-shaft mixer to raise or lower with the hand lever. Emergency Stop Button - This button, when pushed, immediately removes all power from the disperser and sweeper. The emergency stop button is only for emergency situations and is not be used for normal stopping. 29 5 MAINTENANCE 5.1 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Preventive maintenance actions should be based on hours of operation. Days are given based on typical machine operation. Refer to the description on the General Arrangement drawing for capacities. Change hydraulic oil if it becomes contaminated with water, dirt, pigments, or solvents. When changing hydraulic fluid, drain the HPU reservoir, cylinder, and all hoses and piping. The hydraulic oil in the HPU should be checked after the first 100 hours of operation and changed every 1000 to 2000 hours, depending on operating conditions. The filters should be changed or cleaned as necessary, and suction strainers should be cleaned after the first 10 hours of operation and every 100 hours, thereafter. INVERTER CABINET VENT FILTERS To avoid overheating of the inverter drive and subsequent heat related repairs, the cabinet vent filters (if equipped) must be inspected and cleaned every 30 days. Failure to keep the filters clog-free can result in costly damage to the inverter; damages due to improper maintenance are n covered by warranty. jot 34
