SAFETY NOTICES
Thank you for purchasing the FUJI BT2-series Air Circuit Breaker.
This chapter contains important safety information.
Be sure to carefully read these safety notices, instruction in this manual, and other documents
accompanying the Air Circuit Breaker (hereinafter referred to as the ACB) to familiarize yourself
with safe and correct procedures or practices before installing, operating, or servicing the ACB.
In this manual, safety notices are divided into “DANGER” and “CAUTION” according to
the hazard level:
DANGER :A danger notice with this symbol indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION :A caution notice with this symbol indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury and/or property damage.
Note that failure to observe a caution notice could result in serious injury/damage in
some situations. Because safety notices contain important information, be sure to read and observe
■ Transportation Precaution
DANGER
● Never stand under the ACB that has been lifted or suspended by a lifter or lifting attachments.
The weight of the ACB may cause serious injury.
■ Installation Precaution
CAUTION
● Electrical work must be done by competent persons.
● Do not place the ACB in such an area that is subject to high temperatures, high humidity,
dusty air, corrosive gases, strong vibration and shock, or other unusual conditions. Mounting
the ACB in such an area could cause a fire or malfunction.
● Be careful to prevent foreign objects (such as debris, concrete powder, dust, chippings, and
iron powder) and oil or rainwater from entering the ACB. These materials inside the ACB
could cause a fire or malfunction.
● Prior to commencing any work on the ACB, open an upstream circuit breaker or the like to
isolate all sources of power/voltage. Otherwise, electric shock may result.
● Fix the draw-out cradle of the ACB firmly on a flat, level surface using mounting screws.
Otherwise, the draw-out operation may cause the breaker body or the draw-out cradle to fall,
resulting in damage to the ACB or personal injury.
● Take care not to deform or bend protrusions in the bottom face of the draw-out cradle when
fixing the draw-out cradle with mounting screws. Deformation of the protrusions may cause a
malfunction.
● Connect conductors (including screws) to the main circuit terminals in the specified area.
Otherwise, a short-circuit may result.
● When terminating conductors to the ACB, tighten terminal screws to the torque specified in
this manual. Otherwise, a fire could result.
● For 4-pole ACBs, be sure to connect a 3-phase, 4-wire neutral conductor to the N-phase pole
(on the right end). Otherwise, an overcurrent may hinder the ACB from tripping, resulting in a fire.
■ Operation Precautions
DANGER
● Never touch live terminal parts. Doing so will result in electric shock.
● Do not leave the ACB body in the draw-out position. If the ACB body is accidentally dropped,
its weight may cause serious injury.
CAUTION
●Do not force down the charging handle after completion of manual charging operation. Doing so
may cause a malfunction.
●The permissible operating voltage of the spring charging motor is 85 to 110% of the rated ac
voltage or 75 to 110% of the rated dc voltage. Be sure to supply a voltage within the above
SAFETY NOTICES

ranges to the motor. Otherwise, a malfunction, burnout, or fire may result.

● Repeated open/close operation by the motor charging mechanism without pause should not
exceed 15 times. If repeated continuous open/close operation is inevitable, a pause of at least
20 minutes should be provided after the repetitions of 15 times. Otherwise, a spring charging
motor may be burnt out.
●Do not bring your hand or face close to arc gas vent of the arc chamber while the ACB is closed.
Otherwise, a burn may result from high-temperature arc gas blowing out of the arc gas vent
when the ACB trips open.
●If the ACB trips open automatically, remove the cause of tripping operation before re-closing
the ACB. Otherwise, a fire could result.
● If the ACB has the breaker fixing bolts, be sure to loose the fixing bolts before draw-out
operation. Otherwise, damage to the ACB may result.
●Make sure the draw-out cradle is secured with mounting screws before inserting or drawing out
the breaker body. Otherwise, the insertion or draw-out operation may cause the breaker body
or the draw-out cradle to fall, resulting in damage to the ACB or personal injury.
●When retracting the draw-out rail into the draw-out cradle, be sure to push the rail end. Do
not hold the hook pin, body stopper, or body stopper shaft. Doing so may cause your fingers to
be pinched, resulting in injury.
● Do not forcedly turn the draw-out handle clockwise when the breaker body is in the
“CONN.” position. Doing so may cause a malfunction.
● If the ACB has the breaker fixing bolts, make sure the bolts on both sides are securely
tightened before using the ACB. Loosened fixing bolts may cause a malfunction of the ACB, in
particular when it is installed in such an area that is subject to strong vibrations.
■ OCR (Overcurrent Release) Handling Precautions
CAUTION
●OCR setting changes must be performed by competent persons.
● Use a small flatblade screwdriver with a torque of not more than 0.1 N· m or a force of not
more than 0.1 N when adjusting the setting switches (rotary step switches or slide switches). An
excessive torque or force may cause a malfunction.
■ Maintenance and Inspection Precautions
CAUTION
●ACB maintenance, inspection and parts replacement must be performed by competent persons.
●Do not touch ACB current carrying parts and its surrounding parts or structures after the ACB
trips open. Remaining heat may cause a burn.
● Prior to commencing any work on the ACB, open an upstream circuit breaker or the like to
isolate all sources of power/voltage from the main and control circuits. Otherwise, electric
shock may result.
●Take care to avoid adhesion of dust to main and control circuit contacts. Dust on the contacts
may result in a fire.
●Prior to commencing maintenance, inspection, or parts replacement, make sure that the closing
springs are released and the ACB is open. Otherwise, unintentional open/close operation may
lead to fingers or tools to be pinched by the open/close mechanism, resulting in injury.
●Retighten the terminal screws periodically to the specified torque. Otherwise, a fire could result.
● When grinding a contact tip, be careful to prevent grinding dust from entering the breaker
operating mechanism. Wipe the tip clean after grinding. Otherwise, a malfunction or fire could
result.
●Do not perform dielectric withstand tests under other conditions than specified. Doing so may
cause a malfunction.
●Be sure to reinstall the arc chamber if removed. Failure to do so or incorrect installation of the
arc chamber may result in a fire or burn.
●When charging the closing springs or performing open/close operation of the ACB with the arc
chamber, front cover and/or side covers removed during maintenance or inspection work, do not
touch parts other than those required for the above operation (charging handle, ON/OFF
buttons, moving core and the like). Doing so may cause fingers or tools to be pinched, resulting
in injury.
●When replacing an auxiliary, do not damage the control wire for the auxiliary or pinch the wire
between the auxiliary and the breaker body. Doing so may cause a malfunction.

5.0 INSTALLATION

5.1 ENVIRONMENT CONDITION

Put the breaker in the dry place where there is no dust, corrosive gas and explosive medium
and prevent it from striking. If the environment condition can’t be satisfied, protection grade of the
switchgear should be upgraded. Requirements of temperature, humidity and elevation see the
following table:
Item Norm

Ambient Temperature -5℃~+40℃ and the average is no more than +35℃ within 24 hours
The relative humidity of the gas is no more than 50% at the maximum temperature of
40℃. It may be higher at the lower temperature, for example, 90% at +20℃. Special
Relative Humidity
measures should be taken to prevent the breaker from dew caused by temperature
change.
Elevation ≤2000m

·15·
5.0 INSTALLATION

5.2 PREPARATION

Check insulation resistance of the breaker with megohm meter of 1000VDC, the value should
be no less than 20MΩ when the ambient temperature is 25℃ ±5℃ and the relative humidity is
50%~70%.
Place to be tested: test the resistance between each phase and between phase and framework
when the breaker is closed; test the resistance between the incoming wire and outgoing wire for each
phase when the breaker is open.

5.3 INSTALLATION OF DRAW-OUT BREAKER

Take the main body out of the draw-out socket, then install the socket into the switchboard, fix
the socket with four screws of M10 (with washers) (See Fig. 5-1). The applied torque is from 17.7 N.

8.0 SETTING AND USE OF INTELLIGENT CONTROLLER

8.1.2 Setting of protection parameters

Parameters of the intelligent controller can be set in the network while the auxiliary electric
source is provided by controller’s power supply ( Wiring pattern see Chapter 6.6)
For example: Rated current In is equal to 2500A; the parameters such as Ir1=0.8In, t 1=480s;
Ir2=8Ir1, t2=0.2s; Ir3=10Ir1 orginally set can be changed as follows: Ir1=1750A, t1=60s; Ir2=14kA,
2
t2=0.2s (the function of inverse time protection I t should be cancelled); Ir3=17.5kA

Operate as follows:
Convert the above current settings into the multiple of In (or Ir1) so that it will be easy to be
adjusted.
Ir1=0.7In, t1=60s
2
Ir2=8Ir 1, t2=0.2s (I t OFF)
Ir3=10Ir1
Turn the knob to the target point with screw driver, See Fig. Below

Note: New settings will be valid after 5 seconds. In case that fault happens within this period,
Please operate the circuit breaker in terms of the original settings.

8.1.3 Test
Push “test” button to check the setting of test current
If only checking current-time feature of the controller: make the circuit breaker be switched
off before test with auxiliary power supply.
If checking current-time feature of the controller and the operation of operating mechanism at
the same time: make the circuit breaker be switched on before test.

·35·
8.0 SETTING AND USE OF INTELLIGENT CONTROLLER

For example: ① Set the test current on 1.5In as shown in Fig. Above, push the test button once
again, the delayed operating time should be within the range of t1’(stipulated time)±15%.
Note: t1’ (stipulated time) must be converted. In this case, if the value of Ir1 (equal to 0.7In)
and the value of t1 (equal to 60s) is adjusted, put the value of Ir1 and the value of t 1 into the formula:
2 2
(1.5Ir1) t1=(1.5Ir1) t1’, the value of t1’ can be worked out.
② Set the test current on 10In, then I will be 10 multiple with 2500, equal to 25kA which
keeps within the range of instantaneous prection Ir3. Press test button and the circuit breaker will
operate at once.
③ Push the button of “clear” and “RESET” after test in order to operate the circuit
breaker regularly.
Note: In order to avoid mistakes, turn the knob for setting the test current to the right value
prior to each test, and the setting is only effective within 2 minutes. If over 2 minutes, turn the knob
once again even though test current is the same.

8.0 SETTING AND USE OF INTELLIGENT CONTROLLER

8.3 Characteristic setting and use of P25 and P26 controller

Refer to BT2 Intelligent Universal Circuit Breaker-P25 & P26 Intelligent Controller-
Operation Manual for details.
8.4 Communication function of H26, P25 and P26 controller
“Four remote function” could be realized through a communication ports by upper devices.
It could transmit datas of real-time current, voltage, fundamental current, fundamental voltage,
power, power factor, energy, frequency, harmonic voltage's distortion and total harmonic voltage's
and current’ s distortion(only current and voltage for H26); read and modify setting values of
breakers; read the product code, type, alarm signal, fault record, position of main body, states of
ready-for switching on and position of close, etc; remote open or close breaker.
① When the breaker is communicating with the upper devices, “ Communication” on the
controller will flash.
② When “Remote” is lighten on, upper devices could remote-control the breaker(open,
close or modidy setting values). If users want to set values on the breaker, “ Clear” should be
pressed and users should wait until the “Remote” is lights out.
③ Press addresses(site No., baud rate and parity check bit) of breaker could be referred by
pressing Voltage Display button on the control panel of breaker.
● Parameters of Serial Port
① RS485 interface and ModBUS-RTU mode are applied(please contact with the producer for
details);
② Baud rate: 19200bps(1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 and 38400 are also supported);
③ Communication adress: 1-119;
④ Frame format: 1 start bit, 8 bits, 1 stop bit and even check(no check and odd check are
supported)
● Note:
① Communication line is twisted pairs shielded line, the cross section area of which is more
than 0.34mm2. The Max. distance between lines is 1200m. The communication distance could be
prolonged by repeaters.
② 1 line could connect 32 communicatable breakers (16 breakers with components of draw-
out socket communication module).
③ Parameters of serial port should match with each other so that the upper devices could
communicate with breakers, for the communication addresses of breakers in the same
communication line is different.
④ Secondary wiring of communicatable breakers should be connected according to Picture
6.6.2(BT2-1600) and 6.6.4(BT2-2000~6300).

Note: As an option, this accessory is necessory when remote reading of main body postions of draw-out
breakers is required.

Note: ① Please protect the controller against dust, humidity and mechanical damage while setting.
② Make sure Ir1<Ir2<Ir3 while setting parameters again
③ The following items should be checked by technicians before operating the circuit breaker: whether the
setting of parameters is correct, whther the intelligent controller is cleared and resetted, whether the circuit breaker
is in normal condition and should be tested. Inspect the circuit breaker while its operation. Get rid of any faults or
abnormalities in time.
④ If the circuit breaker trips due to fault, remove the troubles in terms of the indications on the panel before
the circuit breaker is in operation again.

8.5 Other Functions

① Self-diagnosis: this function is to check and protect the circuit breaker in its operation.
Should the temperature inside the controller exceed 80℃± 5℃, alarm signal will be send out at
once (the controller is still in normal operation)
② Thermal memory: the memory function imitating the feature of bimetal is available when the
controller operates due to overload or short-circuit short-time delay in the circuit. The energy stored
due to overload will discharge in 10 minutes, while the energy stored due to short-circuit short-time
delay will discharge in 5 minutes. During this period, if the circuit breaker is switched on, the
delayed operating time will be shortened due to overload or short-time delay. Therefore, the circuit
or electrical devices can be protected.
③ Fault memory: the intelligent controller can display fault type, fault phase, fault curernt and
breaking time after the circuit breaker breaks due to fault.
④ MCR:Should short-circuit short-time delay happen while the circuit breaker is in the
process of being switched on or the controller is initialized by being electrified, the circuit breaker
will be switched off instantaneously without time delay.

Note: 21, 22, 23 and 24 serve as the wiring terminals of secondary circuit.

When several of circuit breakers are linked together up and down, zone selective interlock can
ensure fully-selective protection of circuit breakers at up-stream or down-stream so as to reduce
the range of operation by fault and the breaking time of circuit breakers. This function serves for
2
short-circuit short-time delay (I t OFF) and earthing fault protection of circuit breakers.
As the sketch shown above, control lines can interlock with other units of circuit breakers
equipped with intelligent controllers of Type M25, M26 and H26.
After detecting the fault, the intelligent controller (zone 2) will send out a signal to circuit
breakers (zone 1) at higher level and check whether the signal of circuit breakers (zone 3) at lower
level arrives. If circuit breakers at lower level send out a signal, the circuit breaker will be switched
on at the time duration of release delay; if circuit breaker at lower level don’t send out a signal, the
circuit breaker will break at once no matter whether the release has the protection of delay.
