Based on the short story The Third Wishes written by Joan Aiken, this story tells about an old

man
named Mr Peters who is granted three wishes by a magical creature after rescuing a swan. However,
everything comes with a price, and everyone should be careful about what they wish for.

As Mr. Peters makes his three wishes, he begins to understand that each wish comes with
unintended consequences. His first wish, for a sausage, brings him a sausage that he cannot eat
because it is too old. His second wish, for a wife, brings him a woman who is cold and unloving. It is
only with his third wish, when he wishes for the swan he has grown to love to become a human, that
he realizes the true cost of his wishes.

The development of the theme is evident in the gradual realization of Mr. Peters. He realizes that his
love for the swan is true, but his wish to transform her has consequences. In the end, the swan-
woman decides to return to her natural habitat, and Mr. Peters must accept that his love for her
requires him to let her go.

Overall, "The Third Wish" highlights the idea that wishes can have unintended consequences, and
everything comes with a price. It is important to consider the consequences of one's actions and
choices, and sometimes, the best course of action is to let go of what one desires most.
