Pump

Pump
• A pump is device which converts mechanical energy into

hydraulic energy.

• A pump is a device that moves liquids , or sometimes slurries,

by mechanical action, typically converted from electrical

energy into hydraulic energy.

• Pumps operate by reciprocating or rotary mechanism, and

consume energy to perform mechanical work (moving the

fluid).
Mechanical pumps serve in a wide range of applications such as
pumping water from wells, aquarium filtering, pond filtering and
aeration, in the car industry for water-cooling and fuel injection,
in the energy industry for pumping oil.

TYPES OF PUMPS

• Dynamic (Non-positive Displacement)pumps

• Positive Displacement Pumps

Non-positive Displacement or Dynamic Pumps
• These are low pressure, high volume flow pumps.
Centrifugal pumps (Impeller Type)
Axial Pumps (Propeller Type)
Positive Displacement Pumps
➢High pressure capacity, up to 700 bars, Small,
compact size

Compressor
Compressor
• Air compressors work by forcing air into a container and pressurizing it.

Then, the air is forced through an opening in the tank, where pressure

builds up.

• Air compressors work by forcing atmospheric air under pressure to

create potential energy that can be stored in a tank for later use. Just like

an open balloon, the pressure builds up when the compressed air is

deliberately released, converting the potential energy into usable kinetic

energy. From there, this energy transfer can be harnessed to power

various pneumatic tools.

Fan & Blower
Fan and Blower
➢ The channels in the fan and blower push the air forward by the

centrifugal movement and a helical movement when the impeller rotates.

➢ During this movement, the air is continuously compressed along the

channel and the pressure increases linearly.

➢ A fan is a device with a pressure ratio of up to 1.11 where as a blower has

a pressure ratio between 1.11 to 1.2
