Boat Project

1/3
Code: O1.1 Boat Project

Learning objectives and sequence in brief

The Learning objectives of the EEM boat project for O1 are:

★ Show commitment to a team and work effectively to design a boat that meets
defined constraints and produce the expected deliverables within the allotted time.
★ Pre-size the chosen boat design so as to guarantee its buoyancy and stability: starting
from the known or conceivable mass on-board:
○ assess the forces involved and calculate the theoretical volume of the hull
○ from the first stage, a CAD design can be made, so the potential mass of the
ship can be estimated and taken into account, as well as the distribution of its
mass also.
○ Assess / verify the stability of the vessel

Project deliverables:
- Semester 1 Report No. 1: on Buoyancy, Stability and Ship Design
- Semester 2 Report No. 2: improvement and finalization of the study
- presentation of the study (Report No. 2)

Evaluation Methods
The boat design project will be evaluated on the basis of a grid per domain (including
transversal skills).

An individual assessment is equally envisaged (written).
