Thermal Trip Switch FALK 528-510 FALK Installation Instructions FLUID COUPLINGS sravice mauaL | PAGE 2 goo same i itty all types —_ ME raga Gonpaeaion Subject to change witou note supersedes 7.87 INTRODUCTION The thermo! trip switch is offered as 0 standard accessory on Falk fluid couplings. it will provide protection against overheating if the coupling leaks fd or is overloaded. OPERATION ‘Thermal trp plugs ore used in place ofthe standard fusible FILL plugs. They are available for two release temperatures: 264°F (140°C) and 392°F (200°C). fan overload, jam, stall or fid leak occurs the coupling slip will increase. Continuous high sip will cause the fivid temperature to rise. At the designated temperature the trip plug pin will extend and trip the limit switch fond sound an alarm or cut out the drive motor, Figure |. Refer to Trouble Shooting section of service manval furnished with the coupling to determine cause if coupling related —-- CENTERLINE OF COURLING. luo nous roRsi0 fuse fg wsto a RECESSED SHANE a BO TESIMER GS cuss Figure? ‘Table 1 MOUNTING DIMENSIONS —Inchos COUPLING SIE Divewion V7a5] 235] 270] 300] 570] azo] e40] see | wo | Tea | or Af ris) to} 6) 120] 26) 1.26120] 126 | v5 [226 [2s 2 | 3) 5) 5) 3] 3] | ol] a] 3) elo [es [53 [se [67 [76 [oo [ee [ns rar [isa [ve CAUTION: Check coupling fluid to make certain it has not ‘overheated. Overheated fluid which becomes dark in color cond gives off « burnt odor, must be changed. The system can be reactivated by replacing the trip plug ond loss pin (fuse) CAUTION: DO NOT use « thermal trip switch on Type HF41 couplings without a proximity cut out switch. Refer to Fac tory for information. During normal operation, the gloss fuse holds the switch contact in the activated or changed position, Figure 2. When the glass fuse is broken or removed, the electrical contacs will be o: shown in Figure 3. Prior to installation, check switch contact function with and without glass fuse. If contact action does not ‘change when glass fuse isn place, remove contac block, Figure: 4, and turn small adjustment hex screw counter clockwise one full turn. Reinstall contact block ond check switch contact fune- tion with and without fuse. Adjust until proper action is obtained. Thermal trip plugs ore instolled at the Factory when the thermal rip switch is ordered with the fuid coupling. Ifthe thermal trip switch is being added to © coupling already in service, proceed as follows: Thermal trip plug may be installed in either fill or drain hole, except on Sizes 320, 760 ‘and 870 where it MUST be installed in the hole located in the thin perimeter flange side to provide for switch cleer tance. Replace remaining fil or drain plug with either a 392°F (200°C) fusible or o solid plug. The fusible plug should normally hove @ higher temperature limit thon the thermal tip plug or be a solid plug. 2. Provide © rigid mounting surface for thermal trip switch. Refer to Figure 1 and mounting dimensions in Table 1 3. Locate ond install trip switch as shown in Figure 1. Rotote fivid coupling by hand to ensure clearance between fluid coupling and trip switch housing 4. A qualified electrician must wire thermal trip switch in conformance with locol or opplicable codes. See recom: mended foilsofe wiring diagrams, Figures 5 ond 6. Each ‘pplication must be reviewed for correct circuit design by a quolified electricien. o irs |} 120 ac-sonr —_______| ALAsn Of, ce co Beal Nor oves- 7 TEMPERATORE MW gdg "2 THERMAL Ta swaTcH SUS iNn Race Fou u t 120 vac-sonz mde?
