2023-2024

1
International Exchange Programme

➢ Opportunity to study at leading International B-Schools

by participating in exchange during the elective terms at
ISB
➢ Option to choose from 45+ reputed B-Schools
➢ Partner schools are spread across 27+ countries
➢ Credits earned at exchange schools are counted towards
graduation and concentration requirements at the ISB
➢ No additional tuition fee is charged at the exchange
partner school

2
Benefits of International Exchange

➢ Gives international exposure and broadens global

perspective
➢ Develops integrative learning skills
➢ Gives exposure to the business environment of a
different country and economy
➢ Offers the opportunity to co-brand yourself
➢ Widens networking opportunities
➢ Enhances multi-cultural and social competencies
➢ Helps understand international job scenario
➢ Expands personal horizon

3
Key Factors to Consider
➢ Contact hours and minimum credit requirements at the partner school
➢ Whether the academic requirements for a concentration at ISB are met by the
exchange school’s course offerings
➢ Costs
➢ Housing availability - on campus/off campus
➢ Travel

➢ Food preferences & meal options

➢ Placements – ISB placement dates and assistance offered by Exchange School
➢ Visas & Passports - USA (J1 visa: restriction on work*), Spanish and Germany visa
usually takes longer time, so it is advisable to apply for visa minimum 3 months
prior to the course commencement.
➢ Most of the schools do not accept citizens of their country on exchange – check with
SEAL office if you have spent more than 5 to 7 years in the country you are planning
to go to for exchange
* For more information on J1 visa, refer to the below link –
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/study/exchange.html 4
Exchange Disqualifiers
The following will disqualify a student from going on International
Exchange, irrespective of whether they already have a confirmed
exchange seat or not:

➢ If found guilty of any Honour Code violation

➢ Receiving a F grade in any course (due to academic performance)

before going on the exchange

➢ If the student is on an academic probation (CGPA below 2.50) at

the time of going for the exchange programme

5
Exchange Credits
➢ 20 contact hours at the exchange school is converted to 1 credit at ISB
➢ You can choose to do language and Pass/fail courses on exchange, but
these courses will not be counted towards credit requirement at ISB
➢ Credits earned at the exchange school are considered towards
graduation and concentration area requirements
➢ Exchange course grades are NOT converted to ISB’s grading scale and
are therefore not considered for CGPA
➢ Exchange credits and grades will not appear on the ISB transcript. ISB
certificate and transcript will be released upon receiving a separate
transcript from the exchange school.
➢ ASA’s approval must be taken before registering for courses at the host
school to ensure Graduation/Concentration area requirements are met.
➢ Students participating in International Exchange are still eligible for the
Special Honors (Dean’s List and ISB Scholar of Excellence) that are
awarded at the end of the programme.

6
Guidelines
➢ Students can go on exchange for either 1 or 2 ISB Terms
➢ For the partner schools offering 2 or more terms of exchange, students have the option of
going for any of the terms
➢ If the exchange term of a particular school is timed such that it covers both Term 7 and 8 of
ISB, the student will have to go for both the terms, they can’t attend classes during both
the terms (Term 7 and 8) at ISB.
➢ After the allocation of seats, student are required to confirm the exchange terms. Based
on the confirmation, the nomination are sent to exchange school. After sending the
nomination, exchange terms cannot be changed.
➢ Total number of seats for exchange is calculated based on all the terms offered for
exchange by all the partner schools
➢ Students cannot miss a term at ISB and go on exchange even if s/he will be able to
complete the graduation requirements at exchange school
➢ Tie-break number is a unique random number generated by the system for each student
for each exchange programme/school offered in the exchange period (term 7 through
term 8). In case of a tie in the bids, this number is used to make the final decision. In case
of tie, the student with lower tie break number will get the seat. This will be shared with
you in the bidding phase.

7
Guidelines
➢ Each student going on International exchange will be responsible for completing
his/her minimum graduation requirements, which are:
▪ Complete 17 elective credits (across home campus & Exchange school)
▪ Completion of a concentration by taking at least 6 elective courses in that concentration
area including mandatory elective in the respective area
➢ Once a student gives confirmation for a seat, they MUST go for exchange under all
circumstances. Any withdrawal thereafter will attract a penalty equal to the Clearing Bid Price.
➢ To be able to withdraw after the school is allotted, student will have to send an email to us
confirming that s/he would want to withdraw. After receiving an email the seat will be
considered as withdrawn and Clearing Bid price will be deducted as penalty for Dropout.
Student will only be able to participate in any other round of bidding after s/he sends a
withdrawal email.
➢ Minimum 6 months passport validity (after completion of your exchange programme at host
school)*
➢ Students needs to apply for visa minimum 2 months prior to the course commencement
* Passport validity required for some countries can be more than 6 months, refer to the visa
requirements for particular country for more details.

8
Guidelines
➢ Once a seat is allotted, student will have to give an undertaking (as
per the below format) confirming no. of credits s/he is planning to
complete on exchange. Based on the number of credits ASA would
release bid points that would otherwise have been blocked for
graduation requirements:

I (add full name, PG ID), currently studying at the Indian School of Business confirm that I will be
responsible for completing my graduation requirements which includes completing 17 elective
credits (across home school and exchange school), as well as ensuring that I have completed
my concentration requirement of at least 6 elective courses (including Mandatory Elective) in
ONE major. I will be completing <x> no. of credits while on exchange. Further, I am fully aware
that it is my responsibility to manage the 4,500 bid points allotted to me and I understand that no
additional points will be made available to me at any point, under any circumstances. I
understand that I can choose to do language, Non business and Pass/fail courses on the
exchange but these courses will NEITHER be considered towards the credit requirement for
majoring NOR for Graduation requirement at ISB. In addition to ISB's academic guidelines and
HCC policy, I also need to adhere to host school's academic guidelines and HCC policy.”
