According to Section 5{b) of the Banking
Regulation Act, the term “Banking” means
accepting for the purpose of lending or
investment of deposits of money received from
the public, repayable on demand or otherwise
‘and withdrawable by cheque, draft, order or
otherwise.
Under Section S{¢) of the Banking Regulation
‘Act, “Banking Company” means any company
that transacts the business of banking in India.
Section 7(1) of the Banking Regulation Act
prohibits use of the words ‘banker’ or ‘banking’
‘or ‘banking company’ by a company other than
‘a banking company.
Section 712) of the said Act further prohibits the
use of such words by an individual or a group of
individual or a firm.
