Governments should provide Free Public Health Care
Equality has been a central subject in numerous debates in the recent past. Humans desire a situation
that will ensure everyone is given equal opportunity to gain certain societal perks. However, these
debates have mainly majored on eliminating the differences in race and gender. Equality of
outcomes has not been a point of focus, so disparities in critical sectors like healthcare have persisted
over the years. The increased prevalence of such scenarios makes the recent efforts toward equality
seem futile. The main points of equality should be directed toward providing basic needs. All human
beings should have the same opportunity to access basic needs. The elimination of any unnecessary
boundaries will make the attainment of equality of outcomes increasingly possible. Quality
healthcare is a crucial basic need as it involves the sustenance of life. Every human is granted the
right to life with this statute being implemented in countries worldwide. However, efforts to provide
the necessary resources have been slack, making attaining this goal increasingly difficult. It is
estimated that more than 50% of the global population still lacks access to essential services
(Candeias). This situation implies that more than half the global population is susceptible to adverse
health outcomes and is likely to succumb to threatening health hazards. Conversely, out of those
who can pay for healthcare services, about 100 million of them enter into poverty as a result
(Candeias). Hence, the current healthcare situation impedes growth at both extreme ends. Individuals
on the lower end have no means to pay for healthcare expenses, while the others at the top afford
them at an even costlier expense. Hence, an intervention that bridges this gap to ensure gains for
both sides is necessary. Providing free public health care is one way to meet this objective. Free
healthcare is proposed as a solution to the rising costs of healthcare around the globe. Patients will
not be expected to pay per-visit consultation fees to doctors since they will be officially on the
government payroll and will be paid a regular amount every month (Zieff et al.). And since the
government would be the only purchaser of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment under a free
healthcare system, there is a chance that administrative costs would go down as well. As a result,
there is no opportunity for numerous providers to provide significantly varied bids, and pricing will
continue to be controlled (Zieff et al.). Thus, it will result in inclusive economic growth. Free
healthcare will allow enhanced access to essential health services to everyone, thus, improving
health outcomes. These results are all desirable and will lead to healthier populations. Why, then,
should free public healthcare not be implemented? Although it seems costly, the provision of free
public health care will result in more positive outcomes for governments and the public in general.
In conclusion, attaining equality of outcomes requires equal investment in the desired areas.
Healthcare remains to be a crucial part of human lives and must be enhanced to sustain humanity.
Enhancing equality in this sector would ensure that prosperity is uniform among humans despite
differences like gender and race. Equality in healthcare necessitates the implementation of a system
that would balance out the extremes found in the various health disparities experienced. “Non-
inclusive, inequitable systems limit quality healthcare access” (Zieff et al.). However, the provision
of free public healthcare allows the attainment of this quality. The intervention will allow funding
and the supply of necessary resources to come from one source. Consequently, the administrative
costs involved will cancel. The overall outcome of the situation will be holistic growth
encompassing economic and social development. Individuals will have better access to healthcare

and enjoy healthier lives. Hence, they will be better positioned to engage in economic activities and
promote economic growth. These benefits constitute some of the potential outcomes of free
healthcare. Governments should strive to consider this option and implement frameworks to allow
the adoption of this strategy.
