What I Need to Know

Every day, we use different greetings and polite


expressions to respond to our parents, teachers, and
friends. It would help if you learn these greetings and polite
expressions as you deal with them at home and school.
This module is done to understand further the common
greetings and polite expressions you usually use to respond
to others.
In this module, you are expected to:
a. identify the commonly used greetings and polite
expressions; and
b. use correct greetings and polite expressions in
responding to others

1 EXPRESSIONS
Polite expressions are words or phrases we use every
day in responding to others. Such expressions can be
greetings, leave-takings, expressions of gratitude and
apology, expressions to ask permission, and offering help.
We make people happy by responding to them politely.

Directions: It is morning on the first day of school. Let’s see
how the teacher greets her pupils in the dialogue below.

What Is It

Polite expressions are used in expressing greetings,


leave-takings, gratitude, and apology, asking permission
and offering help.
Examples of these are:
