WHAT IS
SABBATH?
Let’s understand the Sabbath.
WHAT IS SABBATH?

1. The word “Sabbath” came from


the Hebrew word “shabbat” that
means “to cease”, “to end”, and
“to rest”.
WHAT IS SABBATH?
GENESIS 2:2–3

2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He


had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all
His work which He had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it:


because that in it He had rested from all His work which
God created and made.

1. It’s God’s way of sending us


a weekly reminder of our
appointment with Him.

2. It’s also a spiritual alarm


clock that awakens our souls
to His presence.

3. The Sabbath serves as a gentle


reminder that prompts us to
recognize our connection with
God and the importance of setting
aside time for Him.

4. It’s a weekly nudge, whispering,

“Don't forget about


our meeting.”

The Sabbath day is a gift from


the Creator Himself, one that
stretches back to the very
beginning.

Israel serves as a reminder that
even those closest to God can
sometimes miss the rest He
intended for them.

7 It was not because you were more in number than any
other people that the Lord set his love on you and
chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples,

8 but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the


oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has
brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you
from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh
king of Egypt.

is unconditional.

♥ God offers us the


spiritual and emotional
rest we all need.

connection with God and a
celebration of His creation.

our lives but also on our
relationships.

1. The Sabbath day is a gift from


God meant for all of humanity.

2. Jesus stated that it is lawful to


do good things on this special
day!

Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

1. Jesus showed us the essence of


the Sabbath through His life.

2. The Sabbath isn’t about


following strict rules but finding
peace and a connection with God.
IN OUR
MODERN
WORLD,
we find ourselves rushing
from one task to another,
often neglecting the very
rest that God intends for us.
