An Overview

Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net.
Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are
"singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side).
Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal
games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the
shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the
court.

Mathematics in Sports
Maths is literally everywhere. Everything around us involves or is a part of maths.
Even when making this presentation maths is involved. Maths is of course involved
with sports. Although not always realized, mathematics plays a very important role in
sports. Whether discussing a players statistics, a coaches formula for drafting certain
players, or even a judges score for a particular athlete, mathematics are involved.
Even concepts such as the likelihood of a particular athlete or team winning, a mere
case of probability, and maintain equipment are mathematical in nature.

An Example
We can use the formula to find the velocity at which the player must throw so the ball
may go inside the basket..

Maths is involved in Badminton

Badminton is a sport with four dimensions. The height, width and length of the playing
space, plus time, make it so that players must have a lot of skill, speed, fitness and
accuracy. From a mathematical point of view, the trajectories of a shuttlecock are a
bunch of mathematical functions.

Badminton Court
Court
Badminton courts need to be very accurate in measurements and geometry. The
badminton court is 13.4m long and 6.1m wide. For singles the court is marked 5.18m
wide.

The lines marking out the court are easily distinguishable and colored white or yellow.
The lines are 40mm wide.

A court may be marked out for singles only. The back boundary lines also become the
long service lines and the posts or the strips of material representing them are placed
on the side lines.

The diagonal full length of the full court is 14.366m.

Badminton courts are divided into two halves from the longer sides. More lines are
drawn in the badminton court symmetrical to the drawings on one of the halves.

Mathematical Functions in Badminton

From a mathematical point of view, the trajectories of a shuttlecock are a bunch of
mathematical functions.

A powerful smash from mid court will have an almost straight trajectory represented
by a function such as:

AX + BY +C = 0

2) A long serve can be represented by the following function:

Y = 5SinX

Shapes(Geometry) in Badminton
In badminton almost everything is related to geometry and shapes. The racket is oval
and within it consists of strings parallel to each other vertically and horizontally
creating a cross figure.

The court is rectangular and have wide dimensions to give more area for each player.

The shuttle cock represents a cone structure.

Conclusion
In Conclusion, Maths is required everywhere in our life especially sports. Without the
accuracy and development of maths, Sports wouldn't even be a thing today.
