"Seaspiracy" directed by Ali Tabrizi and released in 2021, primarily revolves around the environmental

and ethical consequences of industrial fishing practices worldwide. The central theme of the film is the
severe and often hidden impact of the fishing industry on marine life, ecosystems, and human society. It
sheds light on issues such as overfishing, bycatch, and the destructive methods used in commercial
fishing. The film demonstrates how the loss of biodiversity in the oceans due to overfishing and
destructive practices can have a detrimental impact on human food security. It argues that overfishing
and the destruction of marine ecosystems not only deplete fish populations but also disrupt the delicate
balance of marine life, leading to potential food shortages for communities dependent on seafood. The
film suggests that some research practices utilizing biodiversity may have negative consequences for
local communities. It points out instances where scientific research has inadvertently contributed to
overfishing by promoting the consumption of certain species or endorsing unsustainable practices. The
documentary highlights the importance of respecting the culture and traditions of coastal communities
that have relied on sustainable fishing practices for generations. It argues that imposing industrial fishing
methods on these communities can lead to a loss of cultural heritage and disrupt their way of life.

Seaspiracy delves into how the fishing industry, driven by profit and expansion, often disregards the
long-term sustainability of marine ecosystems. It emphasizes the role of powerful corporations and
governments in perpetuating unsustainable practices for economic gain. Personally, the use of
biodiversity for food security should prioritize sustainability and ethical considerations. Sustainable
fishing practices, responsible aquaculture, and conservation efforts are essential to maintain biodiversity
and ensure a stable food source for current and future generations. It is crucial to distinguish between
good and bad practices based on their ecological impact, adherence to ethical standards, and respect for
local communities. One scene where guerilla shooting in Taiji for Seaspiracy, Ali realized that there was
something dubious about the whole whaling activity. He saw that fishermen were driving the dolphins to
the shallow end and then brutally killing them. He didn’t understand it. He came here to see people
hunting whales but this was a totally different scenario. And why were they killing dolphins and not
capturing them. Because profit was to be made by selling dolphins to bug aqua parks where they have
dolphin shows. This film is powerful and that scene really is an eye-opener. I truly wish more people
understood the devastation of what's going on in our oceans right now and how vital ocean health is for
our survival as a human species here on Earth. In conclusion, The documentary film raises important
questions about the impact of industrial fishing on biodiversity, food security, and communities. It
encourages viewers to consider the ethical and environmental implications of their seafood choices and
advocate for more sustainable practices in the fishing industry.
