Inlet valve (XV1101) The manual valve is installed to isolate the flare installation and to stop
the gas flow to the flare. Under normal operating conditions the valve
is always in the open position and will only be closed during
maintenance activities or when the flare will not be used during a long-
term shut down of the plant.

Pressure Indicator (PI2121) Indicates the gas pressure at plant inlet.

Condensate Trap (A2103) The condensate trap is a mechanically drain pot which collects
condensate and drains the liquid automatically my means of a floating
mechanism.

Pressure switch (PS8102) The pressure switch monitors the pressure of the incoming gas. It
switches at 10 mbarg. Above this pressure, the flare is allowed to start.

Pressure Control Valve The mechanical pressure control valves retains the upstream pressure
(PCV8104a/b) at the set value. The smaller valve opens at setpoint 25 mbarg to allow
passage of a limited flow to the flare. If pressure increase further to 28
mbarg, the larger valve opens as well, to allow maximum flow to pass.

Main shut off valve (XV8105) The main shut off valve has been installed to shut-off the main gas
supply of flare 81 in case of faults in the flare control or due to a
regular stop. This valve is a safety device with a "fail to close" action,
also at loss of power the valve closes.

Flame arrester (Y8106) The flame arrester is a protection device to avoid backfire into the main
gas line.

Ignition burner isolation valve The ball valve enables to isolate the ignition line during maintenance.
(XV8110)

Ignition burner valve (XV8112) The ignition burner valve is installed to control the gas flow to the
ignition burner of flare 81 during the ignition phase.
This valve is a safety device with a "fail to close" action, also at loss of
power the valve closes.

Ignition burner The ignition burner is installed in the combustion chamber and will
ignite the gas flow. The ignition burner is equipped with the following
equipment:
- Ignition electrodes which will ignite the ignition gas
burner
- Flame detector based on UV light (BE8115-03). When
there is no visible flame, the flare stops to avoid
uncontrolled emission of gas.

Control panel The control panel monitors and controls the operation of the flare.
The following switches and indicator lights mounted on the front panel
are available:

"Plant Control" switch: - Remote control of the flare

- Flare off
- Local control of the flare

"Local Control" switch: - OFF: the flare is switched off, the purge can be started if
necessary.
- Manual ON: the flare is only operated locally.

"Purge" switch: To purge the gas lines. Combustible gas (air/oxygen) is removed. The
gas valves are open for a certain time.

Emergency stop: Pushbutton that deactivates the safety relay, in case of emergency the
flare stops.

Collective alarm / reset Indicator light that indicates that an alarm is active.
(combination of red lamp and Press the button to reset the alarm.
switch):

Emergency stop / reset Indicator light indicating that the safety relay must be reset after
(combination of blue lamp and switching on or after the emergency switch (local or remote) has been
switch): used.
Press the button to reset the safety relay.
