Welcome to SDSN’s June Newsletter!

Last month was a critical month for SDSN, as we supported efforts to accelerate global financing for
the SDGs during the Paris Summit on a New Global Financing Pact. These efforts included the launch
of the 2023 Sustainable Development Report (SDR), the SDG Transformation Center in partnership
with Esri, the release of a reflection paper on the potential for long-term SDG financing, and a new
Global Commission for Urban SDG financing at a high-level event hosted by the Mayor of Paris, Anne
Hidalgo; SDSN; and the City of Paris. The SDR demonstrates that for the third year in a row, SDG
progress has stalled, and as we near the midpoint of the SDGs, we must scale up development
finance and reform the Global Financial Architecture (GFA). In this context, the report offers a six-
point plan to reform the GFA, issued by SDSN’s Leadership Council.

The report comes in time for the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), held in New York from July
10-19, where UN Member States will present their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) on the
implementation of the SDGs in their countries. SDSN and our networks are hosting a number of
events alongside the HLPF, including the launch of the Benin Sustainable Development
Report; a Science Day event for decision-makers, scientists, and other stakeholders to discuss
science-based SDG achievement; and convenings of the Council of Engineers for the Energy
Transition (CEET) to discuss scaling the energy transition at the regional level and the technical
opportunities and challenges of building a zero-carbon energy system in support of the 2030
Agenda.
