1) In my opinion the better way to watch Star Wars is the order of release.

There are multiple

reasons for it. Firstly because, in my opinion the way in which George Lucas presents Anakin
skywalkers character arc is best represented in the order or release. Watching Star Wars in any
other order would end up spoiling some major plotlines. One of the most iconic scenes in
cinematic history, the reveal that Darth Vader is actually Luke skywalker’s father would end up
as a obvious fact. To be able to enjoy the original trilogy, one should remain unknown about the
plot of prequel trilogy. The way in which Obi wan builds suspense about Lukes’s father identity,
how he refers to him as the best starpilot in the entire galaxy would be pointless to the audience
if they already know everything about the duel of fates even before watching “a new hope”.
There are plotlines about Luke and Leia falling in love and Han Solo’s eventually telling Leia that
he will not come in between them. All this would seem rubbish, if the audience already know
the fact that they are brothers and sisters.
2) George Lucas’ genius is not just limited to his excellent suspense building and plot twists. His
work in Star Wars also reflects a lot of societal and political dilemmas that have grasped the
human society for thousands of years. In the original trilogy he tries to present the fight
between dark and light, the fight between good and bad, the ideals we make and wish to follow
and the choices we must make in the real world. The way in which Luke Skywalker is presented
as a figure whose entire family and home were burned to ashes on mere suspicions tells us a lot
about historical imperialism and the state exercising absolute power over foreign subjects.
There are historical writings about the Belgian king cutting the hands of people of Congo of what
came to be knows as rubber terror. Luke is represented as someone who stood up against
absolute power, even without knowing that he is the son of the chosen, he went on a journey
with an old master, having belief in himself. All these plot lines can only be enjoyed if the
audience knows as much about the Star Wars as luke knows. His journey starts as a nameless
rebel who eventually rose the ranks and made a name of his own, how he eventually discovers
himself under the guidance of master Yoda. The way in which his character is challenged when
he gets to know about his true lineage, and all the conflict and choices he had to make after that
is what the original trilogy is all about. To feel the essence of it, one should not know about the
prequels.
3) Lucas’ prequels are about how democracies fall into dictatorships, how republic falls into one
party rule. Its about how emergencies crisis and mismanagement of state results in popular
support for strong messiah like leaders to emerge. It is about the sith master plan to create a
social order, such that the demand for emergency provisions would come from the senate itself.
Knowing about how the Empire eventually transformed into an autocratic state with absolute
power and the deadliest weapons, eventually making the senate redundant presents a great
picture of what all that is happening in the prequels is leading to. The general dark vibe and
environment that one gains around the empire in sequels gives a very good picture about what
absolute power results in, something which the subjects in prequels are lacking. One could see
how people find flaws in democracies, how they envision and romanticize how one-man rule
would eventually solve everything and contrast it to what it all actually happened after. We
could see what arguments people gave in favor to what all it actually results in.
The prequels are also about Anakin’s Skywalkers’ ‘the chosen one’ turn to the dark side.
Watching the original trilogy before the prequels reflect our real life. People often come across
despicable characters that no one understands or loves. It is only after we get to know them or
research about their past, that we realize how all of our life’s high and lows have a weight in our
adult persona. What one sees in the original trilogy is the dark cold heartless megalomaniacal
character that does not care about anything but his loyal servitude to the emperor himself but
what people do not realize is what all circumstances lead to such a character. How someone
who was called to be the chosen one, the one who would destroy the sith eventually joined
them. It tells us about the impact of rigorous laws and toxic culture which doesn’t allow people
to express their inner desires and emotions transform their anger into hate. The story of Anakin
skywalker’s turn was a tail of 3 films, how he was sold into slavery, could not help his mother.
How he was not given the rank of a master and because of that how he could not learn the ways
to save his wife. How he finally found a person who could help him and how Master Windu tried
to kill that person in front of him.

One of the reasons why Star Wars became historical is because of the legendary animations and
VFX of outer galaxy scenes. Watching ‘ A New Hope’ in 2022, we can find that the spaceships
and planets and laser beams do not look that attractive or breath taking, but creating it in 1970s
was something that a lot of people were not able to do in that age. Watching all the films in the
order of release tells us how VFX and graphics evolved through the time in modern history of
20th and 21st century. The journey from the spaceships of the first film to the spacecrafts and
weaponry of the last film, one could grasp the journey of evolution of filmmaking and directing
in science fiction films.

Lastly, I would say, some changes can be made in the order. For e.g., one could watch episode 4
and 5, then watch the clone wars and entire prequel trilogy and after that episode 6, this would
create a much more emotional setup in Darth Vader’s redemption to Anakin Skywalkers’ and
finally fulfilling the prophecy.

In my opinion nude and violent scenes in modern cinema are efficient ways of story telling and scene
and emotional setting. We must not fall into the ideas that nudity in cinema is something that is born
out of experimentation by modern cinematographers to provoke people’s primal instincts for profit
maximization at the cost of cinema. Nudity is something that has been prevalent throughout human
history in different forms or art, whether we see the painting of Ajanta and Ellora or the Greek sculpture
and buddha statues. Humans have always been very open in expressing and understanding their
sexuality, and the evidences have been seen throughout history, anthropology, and other fields of social
sciences. It is only after the advent of medieval ideas of cultural supremacies, empire building and the
heights of class stratification, that the ideas of ‘Obscenity’ started floating. Nudity came under scrutiny
and people started taking sexuality out of public discourse.

The question about nudity and violence are not just about freedom of expression, but also whether
society once again take the issues of sexuality in public discourse and have healthy discussions around it
or we push them into the darkness and everyone just stays confused about their bodies and primal
instincts.

Violence is also something that is a great tool of emotional setting in storytelling. It is something that
shows us the opposite side of humans, the dark violent sides that are often ignored in historical dramas.
However, I do believe that proper warning should be given before any blood or gore scenes because
some people have actual psychological apprehensions from them.

Adaa- The Film making and drama society was one of my first preferences in SIGs. I have been interested
in drama and acting since my high school times. Not only professional acting but being in a drama
society would also help with overcoming stage fear and general anxiousness in public speaking. As
future managers and leaders we must be able to be proficient in public speaking and public image
management. My days at Adaa would give me a lot of opportunities to participate, direct and be a part
of lots of competitions, for e.g. The Mood Indigo event which we are all preparing for these days with all
our hearts, blood, toils, tears and sweat.
