There are some movies that we watch and forget while some others
have an everlasting effect on our lives .
Today I wanna talk about a film that I watched recently which is “atonement” It is a Hollywood movie directed by a well-known British director (JOE WRIGHT) . since it was renowned novel under the same name (atonement) and starring my favourite artists keira knightley and james McAvoy. It was one of the reasons that made me eager to watch this film. The film titled atonement which means something that you do to show that you are sorry for something bad that you did, is focused on a wealthy heiress Cecilia and the housekeeper’s son Robbie. The plot revolves around the tragic love story that depicts how a child’s misunderstanding complicates the life of two adults.the story begins in 1935,when Briony’s maternal cousins Lola and the twins Jackson and pierrot visit the family admist their parents divorce. meantime Briony and Cecilia’s elder brother returns from London accompanied by his friend from Oxford, the well-off manufacturer Paul Marshal.Cecilia and Robbie bicker over a vase which breaks and falls into a pond. Cecilia dives in to retrieve the pieces, surprising Robbie. Briony who was watching from the window, is confused and intrigued by her sister and Robbies’s acctions. She is inspired to begin writing psychological realism. after the incident Robbie wrote several drafts to send one to Cecilia apologizing for the incident. He gives the letter to Briony to deliver to Cecilia ; however, inadvertently gives her a version he was meant to discard, which contains lewd references.by the time Robbie realizes his mistake, Briony has already returned to the house with his letter. And despite Robbies instructions Briony opens the letter and reads it. She is chocked by it’s vulgar language, and becomes convinced that Robbie intends to harm her sister Cecilia. Soon after when the twins went missing an incident took place Lola was harassed while she went out searching for her brothers. Briony who was there couldn’t see the man’s face and misread the situation and indulged a lie about Robbie being guilty of the assault. The movie goes on to span several decades in the lives of these characters, capturing the traumatic aftermath of lies, and war. The end of Joe wright’s movie shift between tones seamlessly enough to shock first time viewers. Dabbling in both imaginary utopian scenarios and real life dystopian ones. Atonement’s tragic epilogue reveals that Cecilia was killed during the Blitzkreig as she was trapped in the Balham Tube station when it was bombed by German airplanes. Robbie, who had served in world war 2 in exchange for being released from prison, died in Dunkirk due to septicaemia (blood poisoning).only Briony survives the war, eventually becoming a successful writer.
