Pledge of CAYSS Applicants

Graduate School, Chung-Ang University

1. Outline of CAYSS(Chung-Ang University Young Scientist Scholarship)

CAYSS(Chung-Ang University Young Scientist Scholarship) aims to select and recruit international students,
from prominent institutions and universities around the world, who are majoring in Engineering and
Science. The students must be recommended by one of the Chung-Ang University's full-time faculty
members.

1) Master’s and Ph.D. Degree Program: Tuition Fee waivers for 4 Semesters (2 Years)
2) Master’s and Ph.D. Joint Degree Program: Tuition Fee waivers for 8 Semesters (4 Years)
- Monthly Stipend from Academic Advisor (minimum 500,000KRW per month)

3. Conditions for CAYSS recipients


A. Admission Requirements: : International students majoring in Natural Science, Engineering, Pharmacy,
and Medicine who obtained the acceptance and recommendation from one of the Chung-Ang
University’s full-time faculty members. Other requirements and conditions will be the same as
general admission requirements for international students.
B. Conditions of Benefit: Students have to maintain a GPA 3.5 or higher and get the approval signature
of their academic advisor every semester in order to receive the tuition fee waiver scholarship and the
monthly stipend.
C. Duration
1) Master’s and Ph.D. Degree Program: Tuition Fee waivers for 4 Semesters (2 Years)
2) Master’s and Ph.D. Joint Degree Program: Tuition Fee waivers for 8 Semesters (4 Years)
3) Monthly stipend will be offered during their course work (2 years for Master’s or Ph.D. / 4 years for
Joint Degree) and will be decided by their academic advisor after the course work period.
D. Research registration: It is mandatory for Ph.D. students to do research registration for two semesters.
The registration fee is about 10% of full tuition fee and it’s not covered by the CAYSS scholarship. Paying
the research registration fee is the student’s own responsibility. Also, if the students would like to issue
the Certificate of Enrollment after finishing their course work, they need to do the research registration
as well.

E. Requirements for Graduation
Degree Requirements
An article must be submitted to JCR by him/herself or collaboration with the
student's academic advisor before the graduation, and must be published within 1
Master
year of graduation (including confirmation of publication). This must be a
separate article from the presentation of thesis for graduation.

Ph.D. corresponding author (including confirmation of publication). This must be a
separate article from the presentation of thesis for graduation.

*Please refer to the benefits of Master & Ph.D. joint program which are stated
Master’s & Ph.D. below.
Joint Program A) Exemption from the Master’s Degree Thesis Submission Qualification Test
(Language & Major)
B) Exemption from the Master’s degree thesis
C ) After completing more than 4 semesters in the program with more than 30
credits, Master’s degree is recognized as obtained.

4. Accommodation conditions
In case of lack of on-campus housing in C A U Seoul Campus, the university does not provide an
assistance in finding rooms or accommodation to graduate students. However, if any space on-campus
dormitory is available, newly admitted CAYSS students have priority to be allotted a room. No
accommodation fee support is available. There is no family accommodation in the campus dormitory;
Students with family must find an off-campus accommodation by themselves.

5. Monthly Stipend
Monthly stipend is not paid by the university, but paid from research fund offered to the academic
advisor. To receive the tuition fee waiver and the monthly stipend, students must maintain a GPA 3.5 or
higher. In case of temporary departure from the country, the living expenses may not be paid during that
period.

6. Regulations regarding Cancellation or Leaving University


If successful applicants for CAYSS scholarship decided to cancel or leave the university after
admission (the first semester), students will be requested to pay certain amount of tuition fee
back due to the cancellation of scholarship based on university tuition fee payment rules and
regulations.

7. Disqualification and suspension of scholarship
If an awardee is found engaged in any of the following during their stay in Korea, their
scholarship will be suspended.
A. When any counterfeit documents or disqualification of admission requirements of Chung-Ang
University are found even after the admission
B. When student got punished according to the university’s Rules and Regulations
C. When student violated the CAYSS Pledge and Scholarship Requirements
D. When student did not meet a requirement of GPA 3.5 or higher while taking at least six credits per
semester
E. When student did not return to the university within one month after the leave of absence periods ends
without proper reason
F. When student cancelled his/her studies in the middle of semester or degree program
G. When student cannot get an approval signature of his/her academic advisor b e f o r e the semester
starts
H. If a student receives warnings more than 3 times (See no.8)

8. Warning
A. If a student leaves the country without notice or does not return to the country within the
permitted period without notice.
B. If a student behaves contrary to the dignity as a scholarship student.

Pledge Promise

I am fully acquainted with the above items and I will accept the suspension and
disqualification from scholarship program in case of breaching the CAYSS policy.
