Nowadays, the topic of whether students should be required to take classes at university or not is a

controversial matter. Some people hold the view that class attendance is essential for scholars. In
contrast, others have the opposite opinion. From my perspective, attending classes at university or
college is the better choice for three reasons. ( Hằng)

To start with, it is vital for students to attend classes in college so that they could be clarified any
questions they have right away. In this way, learners can discuss directly the lesson with the tutor, and
then they can have a deeper understanding of what they have learned. Furthermore, students who are
not absent from classes could get benefits from teachers’ experience. Teachers would share examples
and stories relevant to the lesson that are not available in books, or they would summarize all the vast
knowledge in books in a simpler way so that students can remember and apply it to do exercises more
easily. ( Thanh Hà )

In addition, university students who attend classes effortlessly connect and discuss with their
classmates. One person cannot be good at many aspects, so attending classes is the best way to obtain
knowledge from their friends, share ideas, and improve the ability of communication and presentation.
For instance, the lecturer frequently gives some heatedly debated topics to them to raise their voice to
discuss and disclose their ideas and opinions. Thus, they can receive so many fresh thoughts pushing to
them from their peers. This creates an effective and lively class atmosphere, the knowledge that
students are studied by others freely. ( Như Quỳnh )

Finally, students can feel motivated when attending a class. Today, lots of students at university tend to
postpone their studies, they are likely to just skip the lesson because they can not be bothered or due to
other commitments, which could make them miss out on the workload for a couple of weeks.
Consequently, frequently being absent will be challenging for students to catch up with others as having
a knowledge gap. Meanwhile, pupils will suffer from peer pressure when attending lectures, which could
help them to stay on track with their studies. Studying in a pressurized environment helps learners focus
more on their main goals and even improve academic results by competing with other friends. ( Thanh

Opponents of compulsory attending classes say that students who prefer at home to study alone, may
feel comfortable and be able to establish their flexible schedule. Although some people are capable of
self-study, others find it challenging to achieve it. That method can be ineffective, which has the
potential to lead to undesirable learning results. Besides, to access online courses at home, students
also need smart devices such as laptops, and iPad connected to the Internet. The ability to purchase
such items for self-study without directly taking classes can not be assured. ( Hằng )

To sum up, there are many advantages of going to university classes for learners. Each student should be
in charge of their education to prevent wasting money and time and gaining unsatisfactory academic
performances. ( Hằng )
