THE PEANUT VENDOR (El Mansiero) Ca.1928, Moises Simons adapted The Peanut Vendor from the popular Latin-American song ET Mansiero. With English lyrics, by L. Wolfe, Gilbert and Marion Sunshine, it first became famous in the United States in a 1931 RCA Victor recording by Paul Whiteman and his orchestra. It was then further popularized by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians (probably the first time that this orchestra performed a Latin-American tune). It was also performed successfully by Xavier Cugat and his orchestra The Peanut Vendor was interpolated in the motion-picture Luxury Liner, starring George Brent (MGM, 1948), and in the motion-picture musical 4 Star Is Born (Warner, 1953).
